Josephine Rodgerson Obituary

Josephine J. Rodgerson

September 10, 1932 - March 22, 2025

SUN PRAIRIE - Josephine J. Rodgerson, age 92, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Oakwood East in Madison. She was born on September 10, 1932, in Madison, to Joseph and Irene (Harrington) Fruth. She married Dennis Rodgerson on June 13, 1953, at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Madison. Known to everyone as Josie, she grew up in Madison, attended St Raphael's grade school and graduated from Central High School in 1950. Josie's passion for dancing began at the age of two when her mother signed her up for dance lessons. She danced her way through life, and when she could no longer stand to dance, she danced from her chair. Josie was also quite the swimmer. She often shared the story of the time as a young girl when she swam across Brittingham Bay in Madison, and had to walk the railroad tracks back home. Josie was an incredible cook and baker who made the best grape jelly. She loved nothing more than a good party, filling her home with love, kindness and plenty of laughter. Her door was always open for a cup of coffee or tea along with a sweet treat for anyone in need. Josie worked for and retired from General Casualty insurance. Josie passed away due to complications from dementia, which she had endured for the past few years. Nevertheless, this did not stop her from enjoying life to the fullest and spreading joy to everyone who knew her. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Oakwood and Agrace Hospice for their care of our mom her last couple of years. We would also like to thank Terri Kindermann for the love and special care she gave to Josie. As Josie always said: "Your time is your time, and you only get so much." We are forever grateful for the 92 years she gave us.

Josie is survived by her children, Denise (Michael) Cain of Sun Prairie, Randy (Kim), of Sun Prairie, Dennis Jr. (Vicki) of Poynette, Warren (Sue) of El Sobrante, Calif. and Neil (Sarah) of Sun Prairie; four grandchildren, Sarah (Matt) Grosfeld, Evan Cain, Mariah (Robin) Wendt, Cody (Jessica) Rodgerson; six great-grandchildren, Callen, Charlotte, Camden, Caden, Everett and Greyson; a brother, Marvin Fruth; a sister, Gail (Richard) Bogdanow. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis in 2022; brother, Gerald (Beverly) Fruth; and sister-in-law, Beatrice Fruth.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 11, at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church, 227 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie. Father Michael Johnson will preside. Interment will be at Sacred Hearts Cemetery following the church service. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at Sacred Hearts Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sacred Hearts Cemetery, Sun Prairie Food Pantry or Agrace Hospice.

I always remember seeing her on holidays especially, Christmas. She always had a smile on her face and was always warm and kind. She was Aunt Josie to me, even though she was actually my mother Renee North's (Fruth) Aunt. As a child sometimes it was hard to remember who was who and exactly how you were related. However with Aunt Josie she always remebered specific details and interests of mine that made her impossible to forget. With Grandpa Marvin's recent passing I can see Grandma and Aunt Josie welcoming him home. And it's hard to be too sad about them being gone, now that they are all together again.
