June Dalton Obituary

June Ann Dalton (née Bergemann), age 83, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, in Janesville, Wisconsin.

Born on March 3, 1942, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, June's life was marked by creativity, dedication, and a deep love for music and community. Her early years were shaped by a passion for craftsmanship and artistry, which she channeled into her first career as an accomplished seamstress. She tailored garments with precision and care at Carmen's and Yost's, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike.

Later in life, June transitioned into a new professional chapter as a tax preparer and manager at H&R Block. In this role, she found great fulfillment helping clients navigate their finances. Her warmth and reliability earned the trust of many who returned to her year after year for guidance and support.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, June was a gifted musician whose contributions to the local jazz scene left an indelible mark. A talented saxophonist and clarinetist, she performed with several civic ensembles including the Capitol City Band. Most notably, she was the leader of Ladies Must Swing-a dynamic all-female big band that brought energy and elegance to stages throughout the Madison area. Under her leadership, the group became a beloved fixture in the community and a testament to her enduring commitment to live jazz.

June's legacy lives on through her family: her daughter Alicia Jenski; son-in-law Anders Jenski; and grandsons Charles and Vincent Jenski. She was preceded in death by her husband, James "JD" Dalton Jr., with whom she shared 55 years.

Her spirit will continue to resonate in every note played by those she inspired. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 23, 2025, from 02:00 p.m. to 06:00 p.m. at the East Side Club, 3735 Atwood Ave. in Monona. Music, dancing, stories and fellowship will include the Dalton Gang, Ladies Must Swing, and the Madison Jazz Orchestra. Memorial donations may be made to the National pancreatic cancer foundation.
