Kathie J. McGaan Hanson

MADISON – Kathie Jo McGaan Hanson, of Madison, Wis., passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, at the age of 80.
Kathie was born on Nov. 4, 1941, to James and Josephine McGaan in Galesburg, Ill. She grew up on her family farm in Altona, Ill., and after graduating from R.O.V.A. High School in 1959, she went on to achieve her B.S. degree in Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
After graduation in 1963, she worked at the UW for three years and then moved to California and worked for a year. Upon returning to Madison, she continued her career in nursing at the UW, primarily in post anesthesia and trauma until 1980.
In 1975, she married her husband, Jim, where they resided on the Eastside of Madison for 47 years. Kathie not only raised a family, but she was also instrumental in supporting the family business, Hanson and Associates.
Kathie was an avid Badgers football season ticket holder, who traveled annually with the Alumni Association to many away games with her best friend, Lynda.
Kathie is survived by her loving husband, Jim; daughter, Kim (Jason Yets); stepson, Jay Hanson; brother, Jim (Linda) McGaan; and many grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Monday, Aug. 15, 2022, with Jon Bilitz presiding. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
In lieu of flowers a contribution for the Ransom Memorial Public Library in Altona, Ill. has been requested. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
