Laura (Laurie) Reese Bloy
Nov. 29, 1955 - May 7, 2023
MADISON - Laura (Laurie) Reese Bloy, age 67, passed away on May 7, 2023, after a long illness. She was born November 29, 1955 to James William Reese and Anita Kietzman Reese of Madison, WI. Laura grew up in Madison, attended West High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Laura enjoyed sewing, cross stitching, and beadwork. She created so many pieces that it is necessary to rotate display of them seasonally, and she gave many to family and friends. She was employed for many years at Lynn's Craft Shop in Madison. Starting in high school, Laurie was involved with the Madison Savoyards and sewed costumes and did make up for several of their productions of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.
Laurie also loved reading and watching mysteries and science fiction, especially anything Star Trek. She met her husband Steven at a workshop on science fiction at UW-Madison in 1974. They were married by Steven's father on April 24, 1976, and had two children, Michael and Sarah. There are fond memories of trips to New York State, Madeline Island, Villa Louis, the Lincoln sites in Springfield, the Wright Brothers sites in Dayton and the 2017 excursion to Nebraska to view the solar eclipse.
Laura will be remembered for her usual joy, humor and care for others.
She is survived by her husband, Steven; son Michael (Kirstin); daughter, Sarah; grandson, Adam; and her sister, Frances (Rodney) Boatman.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1123 Vilas Ave in Madison with luncheon following. Friends and relatives wishing to send a memorial gift can send them to Trinity United Methodist.
The family wishes to thank the staffs at BrightStar Senior Living of Madison for their excellent care of Laura, and Agrace Hospice for their invaluable help during her final weeks.
