Leo Lawrence "Larry" Ambrose
June 4, 1946 - April 29, 2023
MADISON - Leo Lawrence "Larry" Ambrose, age 76, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023. He was born on June 4, 1946, in Milwaukee, the son of Leo and Rosemary (Collins) Ambrose.
Larry graduated from Johnson Creek High School in 1964. He was united in marriage to Sharon Miller on Dec. 9, 1967, at St. Dennis Catholic Church. Larry served in the U.S. Army National Guard from April of 1964 until December of 1995, retiring as Command Sergeant Major. He began working for Capitol Police in 1970 and retired in 2002 as Lieutenant. During Larry's time in law enforcement, he worked patrol and later at the Governor's mansion, primarily for Tommy Thompson and retired with Scott McCallum. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post No. 59 in Stoughton.
Larry and Sharon loved traveling to Mexico for three months out of the year for the past 21 years. They enjoyed taking road trips in their Corvette for many years with the Wisconsin Convertible Classic Club.
Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Robecca (Eric) Boswell; son, Nicholas (Jessica) Ambrose; four grandchildren, Aowyn and Mikaia Boswell, Logan Leo and Lillie Ambrose; and his sister, Judy Bear. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Friday, May 12, 2023, with Father Randy Timmerman presiding. Burial will be held at Blooming Grove Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted in Larry's name to Agrace HospiceCare. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Dear Sharon & Family: I just read where Larry died in April. I thought I read the obits often enough to catch our friends that passed. Sorry I missed Larry's. My heart goes out to you Sharon. I remember how much you guys shared and cared for each others company. I was jerry Baumbach's wife, if you remember me. Take Care it isn't easy, but you're a survivor!
