Lila Mathwich Obituary
March 26, 1935 - July 12, 2025
MADISON - Lila Ann Mathwich, age 90, passed away July 12, 2025, at Oakwood Village East, Madison, Wis. She was born on March 26, 1935, in Almond Township, Portage County, Wis., daughter of Harold and Edna (Lutz) Pohl. She married Dale Mathwich on April 19, 1958. They had been married for 66 years. Lila was a Christian, home maker and philanthropist. Lila had deep dedication to her family and supported her husband, Dale, throughout his business career.
Lila's volunteering over the years included: delivering Meals-on-Wheels, rocking and soothing infants at the hospital, knitting items for non-profits, Bethel's thrift store and Olbrich Botanical Gardens gift shop. Lila was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Lila and Dale supported the missions of the United Way of Dane County Tocqueville Society, Oakwood Village Foundation, Olbrich Botanical Gardens, Bethel Foundation, Bethel Horizons, United Way of Dane County, American Family Children's Hospital, Red Cross Badger Chapter and St. John's Lutheran School (Wausau, Wis.).
Lila was a Brewers fan and followed UW-Madison football and basketball. Lila and Dale traveled to all 50 states and also to 37 countries.
Lila is survived by her three sons, Bruce (MaryAnne), Scott (Sue) and Dean (Luanne); two grandsons, Eric and Tim (Tia); and two great-grandsons, Boone and Abram. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Carol Kleinschmidt and Iva Richards; as well as nieces and nephews. Lila was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her parents; brother, Allen Pohl; and in-laws, Lila Pohl, Faye Mathwick, Jim Kleinschmidt and Don Richards.
The family appreciates the staff of Oakwood Village East assisted living and hospice.
A memorial service will be held at OAKWOOD VILLAGE EAST, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. A visitation will be held at Oakwood from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Memorials to Lila may be made to Bethel Horizons, Dodgeville, Wis., campership campaign. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
