Mark T. Scheffer
Jan. 15, 1955 - July 25, 2022
MIDDLETON – Mark Scheffer, age 67, of Middleton, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022, at Agrace HospiceCare from a glioblastoma (brain tumor).
He was born on Jan. 15, 1955, in Clintonville, Wis. His parents were Francis and Doris Scheffer, and he grew up in Mequon, Wis. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a philosophy degree, he attended the McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, Calif. Upon graduation, he moved back to Wisconsin with his then girlfriend and subsequent wife, Barbara Miller. There they raised their son, Andrew (Rochester, NY) who is married to Megan (Armstrong). Mark has an incredibly sweet grandson, Oliver, who is three years old. For more than 30 years, Mark specialized in business, real estate, estate planning and elder law.
Mark's favorite pastime was to plan vacation trips, especially to mountainous regions like Glacier National Park or anywhere in the Alps, and baking the perfect baguette. Upon retirement, Mark and Barb spent six months each year at their favorite apartment in Paris, France. Although neither became fluent in the French language, they had fun taking language classes in Madison and France, and the French people were very patient as they attempted conversation.
Mark is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Andrew (Megan); grandson, Oliver; sisters, Donna (Timothy) Platner (DePere, WI) and Debra (Michael) Rizzo (Brighton, MI); and brother, Charles (Jane) (Colgate, WI). He was preceded in death by his parents; several aunts and uncles; father-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton, at 12 noon on Saturday, July 30, 2022, with Father Brian Wilk presiding. I was saddened to hear of Mark´s passing. We practiced law together for several years in the beginning of his career I. A dusty, old but somewhat charming building on West Wilson St.
Mark was a gentle soul with a sharp wit, a sense of humor and a ton of integrity. I extend my deepest sympathies for his loss.
