Mark Trotter Obituary

Mark A. Trotter

February 17, 1959 - June 7, 2025

Westport - Mark A. Trotter, age 66, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025. He was the son of Norman and Bonnie (Williams) Trotter.

From an early age, Mark was affectionately known as "Moxie" - a nickname that captured his courageous spirit, perseverance, and inner strength. His positive nature and contagious smile drew many to his side throughout his life.

After graduating from Poynette High School, Mark pursued his passion for architecture studying a year at the London School of Architecture and graduating from UW-Milwaukee. He began his career in Houston, Texas, working ten years for Houston Power and Light Company, before returning to Wisconsin with his wife Julie in 1991 to raise their family near grandparents. Over the years, he contributed his talents to several firms, including Marshall Erdman, Flad Architects, and Power Engineering. Among his proudest accomplishments was designing and building the family's home in Waunakee - a space that reflected both his creativity and his deep love for his family.

Mark had a wide range of interests outside of work. He enjoyed researching family genealogy, collecting and building model trains, and always had a home project in progress. He loved traveling, especially during his younger years when he explored Europe and found joy in the sun and black sand beaches of Mykonos, Greece. Later in life, his greatest adventures were shared with his family - vacations exploring the U.S., relaxing on the sun-drenched beaches of the Caribbean, and skiing the snowy slopes of Colorado.

In recent years, one of Mark's greatest joys was becoming a grandfather. His three young grandsons brought light, laughter, and immeasurable joy to his life, especially in the final chapter of his journey.

Mark also cared deeply about his community, serving for many years on the Town of Westport's planning commission and Town Board. He once served on the board of the American Heart Association as well.

In his later years, Mark was lovingly cared for by his devoted wife and son, Mitchell, whose presence brought him daily comfort and strength. In his final days, he was surrounded by the love of his wife and all three of his children, whose support and companionship brought him peace as he passed.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Julie (Pomeranke); children, Alana (Matthew) Uebersetzig, Cameron (Haley), and Mitchell; grandchildren, Roman, Isaiah, and Gabriel; step-grandchildren, Carson, Evan, Ava, and Collin; sister, Renée (Bernard) Gnam; brothers, Greg (Beth), Daniel, and Michael (Lynne) Trotter; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

"I set my goals high. Then if I fall, I just pick myself up again and go back at it."

These words, spoken by Mark, embody the way he lived-and the way he'll be remembered.

My Condolences. I'm wondering if Norm Trotter was his dad and Renae Trotter is his sister. I worked with Renae.
