STOUGHTON - Mary Ann Bennett, age 91, of Stoughton, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Skaalen Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born on September 5, 1934, in La Crosse, the daughter of Gustav and Auguste (Ann) (Hagemann) Schluter.

Mary graduated from Stoughton High School in 1952 and received her master's degree in teaching from the UW-Whitewater. She was united in marriage to Robert Bennett on June 16, 1957, at the First United Methodist Church in Stoughton, Wis. She was employed as a teacher for the Stoughton Area School District for many years.

Mary enjoyed playing the clarinet in the city band for many years. She was a dedicated bass fisher alongside her late husband and loved spending time outdoors camping and canoeing. She often accompanied Bob and their sons deer hunting and pheasant hunting. A talented and creative soul, Mary enjoyed knitting and sewing, and was a prolific rosemaling painter whose craftsmanship reflected her artistic spirit.

Mary is survived by her sons, Tom (Sandra) Bennett, and John (Donna) Bennett; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and other extended relatives and friends, including the Virginia Lunde family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and parents, Auguste (Ann) and Gustav Schluter; and friend, Tom Lunde.

Mary will be honored at a private graveside service at Riverside Cemetery in Stoughton.
