Michael Amram Weiner, M.D.
April 19, 1948 - Nov. 3, 2023
Michael Amram Weiner, M.D. passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital on November 3, 2023.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; daughter, Ariel (Ryan) Malia; stepson, Jamie Engber; brother, Scott Weiner; brother-in-law, Rick Ackley; granddaughters: Fiona and Juniper Malia; nephews: James Ackley, Adam and Max (Marie) Weiner, Chris, Mike and Tim Ackley; aunts: Natalie Russell, Violet (Robert) Schneider; and many cousins and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley Weicher Weiner and Jack Weiner; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Susan Ackley; aunts and uncles: George Russell, Mildred and Al Lerner, Ruth and Joe Hirschberg, and Bernice and Milt Mason.
Mike was born in Milwaukee on April 19, 1948, and spent his childhood and teen years in Milwaukee and New Orleans. A high school athlete, he graduated from Marshall High School, Milwaukee. Mike attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison majoring in anthropology and pre-med, graduating in1970. He graduated from UW Medical School in 1974, and completed his residency in plastic surgery at UW under Dr. Dave Dibelle. Mike maintained a solo plastic surgery practice in Madison. He was known for his caring manner and taking time with his patients. He shared on-call duties and surgery assistance with his good friend and colleague, Bradley Manning, M.D. It was said that nurses fought to work with them due to their sense of humor and relaxed operating room environment.
At retirement he enjoyed working with his friend, Mike Schwitz, at Anu-Skin, an on-line company providing quality skin care products. It was a joke in the family that he approached projects and tasks, such as mowing the lawn, as a plastic surgeon, taking meticulous care and time.
A well-loved, charismatic people person, Mike was just a great guy. He was a man comfortable in his own skin. While he was always a loyal nonjudgmental friend, his quirks included a tendency not to answer texts or return phone calls. His sense of humor, often irreverent, was widely appreciated. He was smart, curious, outgoing, and interesting and enjoyable to hang out with, whether watching sports, fishing shows with friends and family or watching Shark Week with his grandkids. Mike had a loud adversarial relationship with TV referees and umpires. Our friends called him an Appreciator because he was happy doing almost anything. He enjoyed attending plays, visiting museums, gardening, exploring new places, and hosting gatherings with Diane. He became an excellent pickle ball player and helped others learn the game. He enjoyed travel and with Diane he made a bucket list to Israel and Jordan in 2022. Spending time at their second home in Anna Maria Island, FL, with a wonderful circle of friends and the activities there, was a source of great joy.
Mike endured serious health issues the last six years of life but he never gave up on living or enjoying all that he could manage.
The family wishes to thank all the health care providers that cared for him, especially Dean Clinic's Drs. Dong and Anderson and nurse practitioner Christa Raymond and their staffs. We thank all our supportive friends and family, with
special thanks to Jamie, Rick and Scott for their unwavering help.
We are heartbroken by the loss of this exceptional husband, father, stepfather, brother, uncle, family member and friend.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Mike's death. He was the much beloved surgeon for my husband who died of melanoma in 1995. Mike made our journey so much easier with his kindness, love, humor, and openness. He was SUCH an incredible human being and we are grateful that he touched our lives. My deepest sympathy to his family, his friends, his patients, and all who knew and loved him.

Dr. Weiner would call the office and say, "Hi, it´s Mike!" which cracked me up as all the other MDs referred to themselves as "Doctor." I will always remember him as funny and kind. A good energy guy. Sincere condolences to his family.

When I needed a plastic surgery emergency consult, Mike Weiner was always very pleasant. Once, from St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo, I called Mike about a person with a significant forehead laceration. Mike said "You can handle that." I said "Mike, she's the most beautiful woman I have ever seen." Mike said" You can do it." I said "Mike, she's a second-year medical student." Mike said "Send her down" (to Madison).
Mike Weiner was always fun to interact with.
