Penelope J. "Penny" Bourne

1949 - 2024

Penelope J. "Penny" Bourne, age 75, died on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at her home after a courageous journey with cancer. Penny was born on February 9, 1949 in Chicago to Richard and Estelle (Jaworowski) Kreski. After graduating from Immaculate Conception High School in Elmhurst, Ill., and attending Quincy College in Quincy, Ill., she married Kevin Bourne on April 18, 1970. Penny was a homemaker while her children were young, then worked at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Memorial Library, for 24 years, until her retirement in 2011.

Penny loved so many aspects of this world, but especially her family. She and Kevin raised four children together and she adored spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and talented quilter. For the holidays, she always made crescent rolls from scratch. She enjoyed camping with her family every summer, and after retirement, she and Kevin traveled the United States with their camping trailer; her favorite destination was the Badlands National Park in South Dakota.

Penny is survived by her husband, Kevin Bourne of Columbus; her daughters; Amy Bourne, Bridget (Zubin) Gagrat, Cheryl (Lukas Diaz) Bourne; her son Keith (Elizabeth) Bourne; her grandchildren Tristan, Henry and Charles; her sister Del (Dave) Kelly; her brother Donald (Barb) Kreski; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her granddaughter Abigail, and her brother Richard Kreski.

She will be remembered as a strong and loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. on Friday, July 26, 2024 at JENSEN FUNERAL & CREMATION, Columbus. She will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery, Columbus.
