Raymond C. Matulionis
June 15, 1934 - April 26, 2022
MADISON - Raymond C. Matulionis, age 87, of Madison, WI, died Tuesday, April 26, 2022. He was born on June 15, 1934, in Utena, Lithuania., the son of Kazimeras and Mary (Stoskute) Matulionis.
After immigrating to the United States in 1947, he and his family settled in Racine, WI. He graduated from St. Catherine's High School in 1953. Ray went on to join the Marines where he served in Korea for three years.
After serving in Korea, Ray attended the University of Illinois-Champaign where he graduated with a BS degree in Architecture. Here he met his wife, Janine, and they would marry in 1958. Ray received a Masters from the University of Minnesota and eventually his PhD from the University of Wisconsin. This was the beginning of a long career at the University where Ray worked in professional development and as a professor with the department of Engineering.
Ray and Janine were married for 63 years. They had three children: Vince, Andrew, and Krista; along with two grandchildren: Lindsey and Lucy.
In addition to Architecture, he was a talented artist and had a great appreciation for music, playing piano, violin, and participating in the Madison Opera. "Grandpa" always enjoyed sharing his talents in art and piano with his granddaughters.
Ray was an avid outdoorsman and took his family on many outdoor adventures. Camping, fishing, and skiing were just a few of the activities Ray introduced his family to, which obviously left a good impression as his children and grandchildren continue to enjoy these activities today.
Ray traveled back to Lithuania to visit relatives many times over the years with his family. He was a great storyteller and historian and his family can attest to this as we have all heard his stories more than once!
Ray was a great role model to his children and grandchildren and a dedicated husband. He was a friend to all-no matter how Ray was doing, he always would ask, "how are you doing..."
Raymond was preceded in death by Vince Matulionis; Daniel Matulionis; Ruth Matulionis; and his parents, Kazimeras and Mary (Stoskute) Matulionis.
He is survived by Janine Matulionis; Andrew Matulionis; Krista Matulionis; Lindsey Matulionis; and Lucy Matulionis.

My sincere sorrow in Ray's passing. He was an outstanding professional and I considered him my friend and fellow architect.
