Richard "Dick" W. Hassenfelt

JANESVILLE - Richard "Dick" W. Hassenfelt, 80, passed away with family by his side on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Cedar Crest Nursing Home. He was born October 10, 1942, in Monroe, WI to the late William E. and Mary (Quinn) Hassenfelt. On November 9, 1963, Dick married the former Elizabeth "Bette" Dillon at St. Victor Catholic Church, Monroe, WI. Dick was in the National Guard and retired after 24 years. He also worked for Alliant Energy for over 37 years.
Dick's hobbies included woodworking and wood turning, many trips to Menards, trips with Bette, auctions, and bowling with Bette at Back O the Yards and El-Ra. He also enjoyed being part of the Alliant Energy Retirement Council and was a huge fan of Johnny Cash.
Richard is survived by his children: Ron (Rose) Hassenfelt, Randy (Katie) Hassenfelt, and Brenda (John) Hessenauer; grandchildren: Kaarin, Lindsey, Sam, and Ashley; great grandchildren: Cameron and Lilah; siblings: Pat Flannery, Jerry Hassenfelt, and Geraldine (Myron) Olson; his in-laws: Maureen Thieler, Susan Dillon, Terry (Darlene) Dillon, and Tim Dillon, aunt Theresa Young; his good friends Art and Doris Olsen, John and Jeannie Pankhurst; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Bette on May 10, 2017; parents; brothers-in-law: Don Flannery, Gene Thieler, and Frank Dillon; and sister-in-law Ann Hassenfelt.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, Janesville with Fr. Vince Racanelli. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on Friday until time of Mass. Inurnment will follow at Milton Lawns Memorial Park. APFEL WOLFE FUNERAL HOME, Janesville is assisting the family.
