Richard I. Jones passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2023.

He was born on May 8, 1928, in Viola, WI, to Cecil and Bernice Jones. He graduated from Viola High School where he participated in boxing and long distance track. He married the love of his life, Dorothy M. Buchanan on June 15, 1947, and had 67 wonderful years together.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents; his sister, Jean Morris; and his son-in -law, James Stanley Meyers.

Richard worked for Tri State Breeders while living in Cuba City, WI, from 1953 through 1969, when he moved to Madison, WI. He worked as an electrician until his retirement in 1993. He continued work for neighbors and church in repairing and maintaining everything mechanical as needed. Richard was in his element when creating or repairing projects. His attention to detail was inspiring.

Richard is survived by a son, Stephen (Diane) Jones of Ankeny, IA; daughters: Barbara Meyers of Phillips, WI, and Linda Jones of Madison, WI. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Thanks to friends and neighbors for all their help and support. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Barbara and Dave Houlihan, devoted friends, neighbors, and caregivers for over 30 years.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison WI, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. at Cress. Burial will be at Viola Cemetery after lunch and travel.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Goodwill Industries and Wisconsin Badger Camp.
