Robert "Bob" Darrow Jr.
March 11, 1952 - July 29, 2024
MOUNT HOREB - Robert "Bob" Darrow Jr. passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2024. He was born to Robert Darrow Sr. and Mary (Trainor) Darrow on March 11, 1952, in Virginia. If you knew our Dad, you likely met him at a fastpitch softball tournament, a golf course, a sporting event, a construction site, or a local watering hole. He had more friends than anyone could imagine and was the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back.
Bob graduated from New Glarus High School in 1970 where he excelled as an athlete in football, wrestling, track, and baseball. His love for sports continued throughout his life. He played fastpitch softball for more than 40 years and sponsored his own team, the Darrow Raiders. When that chapter closed, he spent many years coaching Mount Horeb/Barneveld youth and high school football where he strived to build a robust program, which included the construction of two football fields on his property to ensure kids always had field time.
He resided in Mount Horeb, owning and operating Darrow Concrete for more than 27 years and took a tremendous amount of pride in his work and his employees. In 2010, he became an employee of Cleary Building Corp., providing oversight into many building and construction projects in the area.
Bob loved time with family and friends. He spent countless hours on the golf course swinging clubs, talking smart and enjoying maybe just a few Coors Lights. For us kids, if you were looking for Dad, the first question was if you checked The Norsk!
He will be best remembered for his generosity towards his community, his love and passion for sports, and the relationships he valued – from the young players he coached, his many friends and the family he was so proud of. He was our rock, and he will be greatly missed.
Bob is survived by his wife, Cindy (Skamarak) Darrow; daughters, Marcy (Derek) Dahlk, Mindy (Chris) Wetzel and Marta (Shawn Kneeland) Darrow; sons, John (Audi Nett) Darrow and Dylan (Chelsie Leslie) Cudo; and grandkids, Lucy, Ruby, Cora, Ava, Maci and Stanley, who knew him as "Grandpa Buzz." He is further survived by his siblings, Denny (Paula) Darrow, Dana (Jacque) Darrow, Tom (Jodie) Darrow, Dine (Ron) Hefty and Pat Austin. He also leaves behind longtime friend, Kym "Red" Kalscheur.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary; brother, Robert John; and sister, Donna Wealti.
Please join us in celebrating Bob's remarkable life at NORSK GOLF CLUB, 2755 Norsk Golf Bowl Road, Mount Horeb, beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024.
