Robert Alan "Bob" Martin of Vero Beach, Fla. passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Reed Martin and Dorothy Weaver Martin and brother-in-law, Patton Bernard Saul, M.D.

He is survived by his sister, Susan Martin Saul and his nephew, Patton Reed Saul, of Roanoke, Va.; his daughter, Jill Marie Lannon (Mike); his grandchildren, Connor, Paige and Nathan Lannon, all of Round Hill, Va.; and numerous cousins. Bob was looking forward to reconnecting with everyone when he relocated to Roanoke.

Bob resided and worked in the D.C. area for 40 years. He worked for Verizon and did technical support at the Pentagon and NIH during his last years of employment. Upon retiring, he moved to Florida enjoying the Vero Beach area.

Some of Bob's happiest moments were sailing. He enjoyed owning, maintaining and sailing from Maine to Florida and out into the Caribbean Sea. One of his favorite places to sail was in the Annapolis, Md. area over to St. Michaels and Oxford. His sister and brother-in-law were his frequent passengers and crew.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to his neighbor and best friend, Mike Haron. His compassion and dedication provided Bob with comfort and peace.

A private service has been planned at Bob's request. The Reverend Laney Mofield will conduct the service.

Bob had a great love for children and animals. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make memorial contributions, please consider your local food pantry, SPCA or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
