Robert Massis Sergenian

MADISON - Robert Massis Sergenian, age 93, of Madison, died on April 20, 2022.
The oldest of eight siblings, Bob was born on December 24, 1928, the son of Ara and Alice (Kaprelian) Sergenian. Bob attended Franklin Grade school in Madison's Hells Half Acre, home of the Southside Scorpions where he and his siblings grew up. Bob graduated from West High school in 1947, attended Canterbury College in Danville, IN. He transferred to UW Madison graduating in 1952 with a B.B.A. degree majoring in accounting.
Bob served in the Army during the Korean War. Bob was privileged to be on the Badger Honor Flight in May 2013. He was joined on the flight with brothers: Marsh and Ron.
Bob was very active in the Madison City Recreation programs playing and managing in baseball, softball, basketball and touch football. Bob with each of his siblings grew up and worked in the floor covering business which their father established as Sergenian Floor Coverings in 1930.
Bob met the love of his life, Sarah (Sally) McAuliffe, a student at St. Mary's Hospital Nursing School. They married on May 12, 1956, in Janesville. Sally continued nursing at St. Mary's Hospital and Bob was assistant controller of General Telephone Company. In 1964 Bob joined Hyland, Hall & Company and H & H Electric Co. as controller. In 1967 Bob was appointed to the Board of Directors and treasurer of the H & H companies. After 50-years, Bob retired on March 31, 2014.
Bob was a lifetime member of Grace Episcopal Church, a member of several accounting associations through the years and a member for over 50-years in the Downtown Optimist Club.
Bob is survived by his four children: Laura (Jay) Crandall of Sun Prairie, Robert J. of Madison, Jeffrey (Kim) Sergenian of Sun Prairie, Mary (Brian) Good of Fort Mill, SC; five grandchildren: Robert A. Sergenian, Joseph (Katlyn) Sergenian, Kaitlin Sergenian, Zoe and Carter Good; and great-granddaughter, Marissa Sergenian; sister, Miriam Jeknavorian; brothers: Paul (Diane) and David (Rosie); sisters-in-law: Jayne and Alice; and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and dear friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife and soulmate of 58-years Sally; his parents; brothers: Ara Jr., Marshall , Ronald and Daniel; daughter-in-law. Mina (Robert J.) Sergenian; twin granddaughters, Claudia and Emily Good; sisters-in-law: Lorraine Sergenian, Linda Sergenian, Mary Hamlin, Elizabeth Knox, Ellen Holmberg, Rita Roherty; and brothers-in-law: Garbis (Miriam) Jeknavorian, Albert Hamlin , Melvin Holmberg, James McAuliffe, William McAuliffe, George Roherty; and nephew, John Sergenian.
Memorial service will be held on May 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church on the Capitol Square. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

My heart is full of such wonderful memories of Bob and Sally. We were friends for many years. Bob was truly one of the most wonderful people I have known. May all of the wonderful memories of your Dad be a comfort to all of you. With deep sympathy and much love.
