Rosemary Aspinwall Obituary

Rosemary (Rosie) Agnes Aspinwall

April 19, 1934 - January 14, 2025

Rosemary Agnes Aspinwall (Rosie) passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025. She was born in Madison, Wisconsin on April 19, 1934. A feisty Irish woman who lived life to its fullest, Rosie was a treasured wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of everyone she met with her warmth, humor, and infectious energy. She was the beloved daughter of Dave and Helen Welch and grew up alongside her brothers, Robert and Michael.

Rosie married Peter Aspinwall, the love of her life, on December 26, 1953. They shared a blessed 71 years together; a beautiful life rooted in a strong foundation of love, adventure, unwavering companionship, and a lot of laughter. Their partnership was a shining example of devotion and loyalty - a love that grew stronger with each passing year.

Rosie was a devoted mother to her surviving children: David (Katie), John (Jeanne), Michael, Thomas (Lisa), and Cathy Wahlin (Ken). She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, in-laws, eldest son Peter J, and grandson Sam. Rosie leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.

Throughout her life, Rosie touched the lives of many with her warmth, dedication, and humor. She was known for loving hard, playing hard, and always being the life of the party. Her laughter was contagious, and her zest for life was unparalleled. Whether hosting family gatherings or enjoying a lively conversation, Rosie knew how to light up a room and make everyone feel welcome. She loved to be surrounded by her family and friends. She loved euchre, a good tan, and an ice-cold Coors Light. She was strong and classy; Shakespeare must have had her in mind when he wrote "Though she be but little, she is fierce." Her legacy is carried forward by those who knew and loved her.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Madison, WI, on Thursday, January 30, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will take place from noon until the time of the service.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the entire staff of Agrace Hospice for their loving care and kindness to Rosie and her family. Memorials may be made in Rosie's honor to Agrace Hospice, 5395 E Cheryl Pkwy, Fitchburg WI 53711.

Rosie was indeed a classy lady. I can remember as a child playing with her children, my cousins. She knew how to make you feel at home. Everyone was welcome at Aspinwall´s house. Pete and Rosie had a special bond. Even a child could see it. It was based on mutual respect. Jim Meehan, Wimberley, TX

I´ve known your Mom since 1975 when Joan stated at Queen of peace with Cathy. Been to so many parties and fun things at her house. Christmas with Pete as Santa. My favorite story is when Eric was little and he turned around to Joanie and said Mom is that Cathy´s Dad? She said yes honey it is... he screamed OMG Cathy is so lucky Santa is her Dad. We all laughed til we cried. Love the Aspinwall´s. Prayers for wonderful memories and knowing Rosie is in heaven with Jesus and will greet you when you all get there! She will be an awesome welcome party! Spuds
