Shriley J. Benzine, age 92, of Sun Prairie, passed away at Agrace Hospice, Wednesday, October 16, 2024. She was born October 11, 1932, in Lodi, Wis. to Elmer and Anna (Lyster) Anderson.
Shirley graduated Valedictorian at Rio High School in 1950 and then graduated from Madison Business College (MATC) in 1951. She married Ralph J. Benzine October 9, 1954, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rio, Wis. Shirley had many occupations including selling Avon, being a homemaker, and bookkeeper for the Rio School District for 25 years. She belonged to the Red Hats Society, Investment Club, Ladies Aid for church, and a book club. Shirley enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, reading, knitting, spending time at her cabin in Briggsville, but what brought her greatest joy was watching her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play in all of their sports activities.
Survivors include: sons, Dale (Laurel) of Johns Creek, Ga., Dan (Sharon) of Denton, Texas, DuWayne (special friend Ruth) of DeForest, and Doug (Carol) of Sun Prairie; grandchildren, Nicholas (Trisha), Joycelyn (Mike), Amanda, Ashley (Joe), Derek (Special friend Josie Lienke), Tyler (Kelsey), Abigail, Alyxndra, and Alyssa; sister, Joclyn; brother-in-law, Richard Benzine; and sister-in-law, Ethel Uttech. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Arlene (Tom); brothers, James (Ruth) and Marvin (Eunice); brothers-in-law, Lyle (Oma) and Carl Uttech; sister-in-laws, Joyce (Merlin), Judith Benzine, and Judy Benzine.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 11 a.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church, in Rio with Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service at church Wednesday. Interment will follow at Ohio Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
