Susan Wellman Obituary
May 20, 1952 - January 9, 2026
MADISON - Susan M. Wellman, age 73, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026. She was born on May 20, 1952, in Madison, the daughter of Art and Millie (Seefeldt) Wellman.
Sue graduated from Monona Schools in 1970. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she majored in Economics and Education. Sue taught in the public schools, retiring from the Middleton Cross Plains School District in 2013 after teaching 5th grade there for 32 years. Sue's contributions to students and families were many and Sue was also a Union Representative for the staff.
Sue traveled extensively; Peru, China, Germany and Australia being some of her destinations. She enjoyed music, playing cards, going to shows and being "Aunt Sue" to her nieces and nephews. Sue generously took her nieces and nephews on "graduation trips" of their choosing and enjoyed sharing New York City, Washington D.C., Yosemite and San Francisco with them.
Sue is survived by her brother, Tom (Deb) Wellman; sister, Deb (Bob) Silvis; and nieces and nephews, Drew (Sarah) Wellman, Kyle (Fran Kern) Wellman, Justin (Jordan) Silvis and Jackie Silvis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Millie Wellman.
A brief memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Saturday, February 28, 2026, with a luncheon to follow. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
The family wishes to thank Vista West Madison and Bristol Hospice staff for their care of Sue. Also, a special thank you to Mary Cochems whose visits to Sue were invaluable.
