Pomraning, Thomas "TomPom"
MADISON - We lost a most remarkable and incredible person on Dec. 23, 2020, when Thomas E. Pomraning, "TomPom," age 78, died at home from complications of a five-year battle with lung cancer.
In Tom's words, if you are reading this, then I have died. I have asked that there be none of my life's history taking up room in the paper. To all that knew me, you knew the type of man, husband, father, grandfather, and friend I was. For that I appreciate all of you putting up with me. I do want to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the doctors and staff at SSM Oncology. You know who you are. Also, to the staff at SSM Hospitals and Clinics for doing your best to give me five-plus years to be with my wife, family, friends and co-workers. One last thought from me: "I was born, I lived, I have died, and have had a good life." That is what is important.
Tom is survived by his wife, LeAnn Slama Pomraning; daughter, Jeanne (RD) Desai, Sunnyvale, Calif.; son, Eric (LeighAnn) of Verona; and LeAnn's family, Gail (Paul) Kunch of Fort Madison, Iowa, Michelle "Shelly" (Shawn) Slama/Redman, Merrimac, and Travis (Cindy) Slama, Marquette, Iowa. Tom is further survived by his brother, James (Linda) Pomraning, Brookfield; brothers-in-law, John (Karen) Syens, Fort Atkinson, and Duane (Beth) Syens, Wisconsin Rapids; sisters-in-law, Donna Syens, Stevens Point, and Gayle Pomraning, San Diego; grandchildren, Maya, Jay, and Brij Desai; LeAnn's grandchildren, Brett Hogan, Sarah and Evelyn Kunch, and James Robert Slama; many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his first wife, Sheryl; his parents, Carlton C. and Lorraine H. (Volkman) Pomraning; his brother, Gerald C. Pomraning; Sheryl's parents, Peter and Elsie Syens; and his brother-in-law, LaVerne Syens.
At Tom's request there will be no services. At a date, yet to be decided, a gathering will be held to honor the memory of one outstanding, kind, loving, and loved man, minus the most wonderful chocolate truffles ever made.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in Tom's name to The American Cancer Society, Second Harvest Food Bank, or Wisconsin Public Radio.
Afterglow
I'd like the memories of me to be happy ones.
I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

The picture of Tom juggling is one of the ways I remember him at Revenue. He hired me in 1979. It was a privilege to have known him and worked with him. Enjoy your many happy memories of him.

Am saddened by this loss. Tom was a special, friendly, fun loving, long time coworker of mine from DOR. I have many special memories of his superior technical knowledge and support, and maybe more importantly, fond memories of his friendliness and fun loving attitude toward life as evidenced by the many many people who would have considered him a friend. RIP Tom
