Sutter, Valeria Ann (Wiest)
MOUNT HOREB - Valeria Ann (Wiest) Sutter, 83, died peacefully on the family farm surrounded by family on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021. She was born in the Township of Perry on Oct. 22, 1938, to Raymond and Marcella (Haag) Wiest. She was united in marriage to Edward Sutter on May 30, 1958, at Holy Redeemer (Perry) Catholic Church.
Valeria grew up on a dairy farm with her eight siblings. She attended Spring Valley School and graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1956.
Valeria was a lifelong member of the Holy Redeemer (Perry) Catholic Church. She said, "God has embedded HOLY Redeemer deep in my veins and it will always remain there."
While Ed and Valeria raised their four children on the family farm, Valeria would clean homes and work on the farm. Her job in the summer was always driving tractor baling hay.
She had an amazing green thumb, and always had big gardens with beautiful flowers. She knew many scientific flower names and enjoyed raising Hybrid Iris and Daylilies. Valeria was given an honorary membership to the Mounds View Garden Club in 2020 for her 36 years of membership and work. She shared her gardening knowledge as well as her diversity of plants for their annual spring sale. Valeria won many awards for her creative flower arranging at district Garden Club Shows, conventions, and the annual Garden Expos. Agriculture and the family farm kept her involved in AMPI, Farmers Union, The Grange, Wisconsin Women for Agriculture, Homemakers, Red Hatters, Daylily, and the Iris Society.
Valeria was a strong woman of faith. She helped start the school of religion program. She was the director and taught school of religion for many years at Holy Redeemer and St. Ignatius. Valeria decorated the church weekly for Sunday Mass with the flowers and plants from her garden. Valeria made many bouquets for weddings, holidays, and other celebrations or just for the dinner table.
Valeria is survived by her husband, Edward, of 63 years; their children, Sharon (Dave), Mitchell (Mary Kay), Brenda (Robert) and Beth (Patrick); nine grandchildren, Matthew (fiancée, Taylor), Marcus (Stephanie), Courtney (Justin), Shawn (Megan), Sarah, Rebecca (fiancé, Ryan), Jessica (Kevin), Bryan (Carssisa), and Andrew (fiancée, Lisa); and 10 great-grandchildren. Valeria is also survived by her siblings, Marcy Schoepp, Janice Gladem, Jerry (Ann) Wiest, Venita (John) Cleary, Darlene (Dennis) Cleary, Jean (Mike) Ryan, Linda Seaquist, and Kathy (Terry) Kurth; and sisters-in-law, Edna Candor, Karen Sutter and Diane Sutter.
Valeria is reunited in heaven with many loved ones, her parents; mother- and father-in-law, Edmund and Apollina Sutter; a grandson, Eric Sutter; brothers-in-law, Richard Candor, George Schiro, Willam Meylor, Clarence Sutter, Kendall Gladem, and Donald Schoepp; and sisters-in-law, Lorraine Meylor and Bernice Schiro.
