Verda V. McFarlane

SAUK CITY - Verda V. McFarlane, age 100, of Sauk City passed away peacefully December 8, 2024 at the Pines Assisted Living in Prairie du Sac where she has lived since January 2022. Verda was born April 5, 1924 at home on the farm in Springdale Township. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Lillian Oimoen. Verda graduated from Mt Horeb High School and later graduated from St Olaf College in Northfield, MN in 1945 with a Home Economics teaching degree as the only one in her family to graduate from a four year college. She taught Home Economics at Sauk City High School for two years where she was introduced to the love of her life, Bob McFarlane, by his mother at a Sauk City high school football game. Robert McFarlane and Verda Oimoen were united in marriage on Sept 6, 1947 in the Springdale Lutheran Church. They were married for 54 years until Bob's death on Nov. 30, 2001.
Verda lived a wonderful life filled with joy which she shared with everyone she met. She was a longtime member of First United Church of Christ in Sauk City and served for several years on the Sauk City library board. She enjoyed many activities including; sewing, knitting, crocheting, scrabble, bridge, cooking, reading, camping, dancing, travelling, Badger and Packer football games, spending precious time with family and friends and Howling at the Moon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Lillian Oimoen; two step mothers, Julia and Rosenna Oimoen; brothers, Arthur and Donald Oimoen; and sisters, Eleanore Oimoen and Ruby Oimoen, who died at age 3.
Verda is survived by her 4 sons and their wives, John and Jerilyn McFarlane of Sauk City, David McFarlane and Ann Foley of Prairie du Sac, Richard and Marilyn McFarlane of Prairie du Sac, Douglas McFarlane and Yvonne Heibert of Mt Horeb, a former foreign exchange student Dr. Klaus Pichler of Graz, Austria who Bob & Verda loved as a son, and a dear cousin, Beth Elver of Mt Horeb. In addition, Verda is survived by 12 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and a large number of nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held at the First United Church of Christ, 504 Washington Ave., Sauk City from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, December 13, and also at the church on Saturday, December 14 from 9:00 am until 11:00 a.m. with a Funeral Service to be held at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Sauk City Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at Lake Wisconsin Country Club, N1076 Golf Rd, Prairie du Sac, WI.
Verda's family is eternally grateful and thankful for the professional, personal, compassionate, loving, care Verda received by the staff at Pines Assisted Living and Agrace Hospice.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Verda's memory be directed to First United Church of Christ, Agrace Hospice Care, or Sauk Prairie Healthcare.
