June 9, 1932 - July 26, 2023
MADISON - William (Bill) Allen Walker, age 91, died peacefully at the Capitol Lakes Memory Care in Madison on July 26, 2023. His wife and children were able to say goodbye earlier in the day.
Bill was born in Madison, WI, on June 9, 1932, the son of William (Bill) and Eulalia (Lala) Walker. Bill graduated from West High School in 1950, and earned a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1954. In 1954, he married Anna (Ann) Wenban Hastings and had a loving relationship for 69 years.
Bill used his engineering degree at American Air Filter (Louisville, KY), Flad Architects (Madison), and Research Products (Madison), before joining Union Transfer & Storage, the family business. In partnership with his father, he ran a successful business for 30 years.
Bill loved sports of all kinds; he played varsity hockey and tennis in high school and enjoyed a wide range of sports later in life. He could be found either at the UW football stadium or hockey arena for many years, cheering the Badgers. He and Ann were often found at Maple Bluff Country Club playing tennis and golf together. Bill also enjoyed games of any kind; he was the Madison Rotary checker champion for many years. It was difficult to beat him, even in his later years.
Bill traveled extensively all over the world with Ann and especially enjoyed trips to visit his daughter and family in Asia.
Bill was dedicated to his family and especially loved interacting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife, Ann and three children: Arrietta (Allen) Clauss, Allen (Cindi) Walker, and James (special friend Deb Ross) Walker. He is further survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Jane Cooper; and cousin, Mary Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents.
