Alice Hill Obituary

Alice Faye Hill

March 20, 1945 - September 29, 2024

Alice Faye Hill (Dooley), 79, of Boise, Idaho, passed away on September 29, 2024.

She was born in Boise, Idaho, on March 20, 1945, to Elisha and Doris Dooley. She loved fishing, catching frogs and other forms of childhood mischief at Julia Davis Park, and exploring the many trails at Camel Back park.

Her family were members of the Salvation Army. She told stories of visiting the prisoners during the holidays and the other great service projects she did while growing up. She began playing the cornet in the church band when she was five years old.

Alice attended Boise High School. All those years of playing the cornet paid off when she received a music scholarship to attend Boise Junior College before transferring to Idaho State University to study education.

Alice loved playing and coaching women's fast-pitch softball and played for the Boise Chicks.

She went on to teach physical education, geography, and other subjects at Snake River High School, Minico High School, West Minico Junior High School, and Mount Harrison High School.

She coached volleyball and girls' basketball and was the Micadette adviser at Minico High School for a time.

She retired from teaching after 43 years in 2011.

Alice was married to Rex Hill for 27 years and was a devoted mother to Vicky and Bradford, her pride and joy. Alice encouraged her children to be active in many hobbies and was always their biggest supporter. These activities took them on great adventures to places such as Disneyland, an Oakland Raiders vs Minnesota Vikings football game, a cruise, and many dance, drama, and Taekwondo competitions over the years.

Alice was a beloved teacher for 43 years. If you ask her students, they may tell you she was quite intimidating if you didn't know her - but once you got past the scary speech at the beginning of the year, you knew she was one of the most authentic, loving people you will ever know. She is still friends with many of her former students and loved educating, coaching and advising other activities.

After retiring from teaching in 2011, she moved to California to live with her son Bradford.

In 2017, she had the opportunity to travel to Hong Kong to meet Queenie's (her daughter-in-law), family.

She moved to Boise in 2018.

She also traveled to Alaska many times to visit her daughter, Vicky's family. Some of her favorite adventures included visiting the Sea Life Center, exploring Juneau, riding the train along the Turnagain arm, visiting Fairbanks, and seeing the Northern Lights at Chena Hot Springs.

She was a devoted grandmother to five wonderful boys and one adorable girl - yep, it only took six grandkids to get that granddaughter!

Alice loved Boston Terriers. She had three during her life. Mr. Spock, Speenker, and Winston.

Alice was preceded in death by her mother, Doris, father, Elisha, sisters Marie, Vivian, and Joyce; and brother, Charles. She is survived by her brother Barry (Arlene) Dooley, daughter Vicky, son Bradford (Queenie) Hill, and grandchildren Cyrus, Cedric, Caspian, Cecil, Collin, and Polly who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5th, at 12:00 p.m. at the Paul, Idaho Stake Center.
