Then there is the ultimate goodbye that leaves an emptiness

Only memories can fill.

If you're reading this I'm expressing my ultimate goodbye.

My birth name was Alonzo Dudley Smith. I was named after my grandfather, Alonzo, and one of my dad's brothers Dudley. I was commonly known as Pete.

I was born on July 31, 1959, in Twin Falls, ID. My dad, Dr. Richard N, Smith, a third generation surgeon and my mom, Dorothy L. Brobander, a nurse practitioner, complimented each other in medical and parenting skills.

We had a blended family of his, hers, and ours. My dad's children, Dr. Richard N. Smith Jr., a fourth generation surgeon, followed by JoAnne, Shirley, and Daniel. My mom's children, Jerry L. Rowland, well known in Portneuf Valley law enforcement community, followed by twins, Connie and Bonnie. By far the youngest of eight, I have outlived all but my sisters Shirley and Connie.

My dad sold his Twin Falls practice when I turned seven and for the next two and a half years, until my fathers death, we lived on a missile base in the Marshall Islands. We embarked on many vacation trips throughout the South Pacific.

After my fathers death, mom and I moved back to the U.S. and bought a motel in Ketchum, ID. A couple of years later she married Dwayne "Hootch" Machacek. Eventually settling in Buhl, ID, where I attended Jr. High and most of High School. Hootch taught me many valuable lessons only found in a small town and to this day I consider Buhl my hometown.

I was 17 when mom was killed in a car accident and from that point forward, I was on my own. I made plenty of mistakes but have many successes as well. My brother Jerry convinced me to move to Pocatello, ID, in 1983. I married Teresa Banks and had two wonderful children, Christina Michelle (Mike Mason) and Casey Justin (Ashley Miller). Teresa and I divorced in 1993.

I graduated from Idaho State University in 1997 and joined a partnership at Western Industrial where I worked until selling in 2021 and retired.

In 2004, Lynn and Roxy Simms introduced me and Debra Taylor. We began a series of adventures including the purchase of the famed architect Frank Paradice 100-year old house on S. 7th Avenue where we entertained friends and family.

On August 8, 2008, we were married and enjoyed a blended family with Russ (Nicole) DeRoche, Jake (Stacey) DeRoche, Joshua Graves; daughter, Jamie (Codie Evans); and Deb's grandchildren.

The good times continued until my diagnosis of TCC liver cancer combined with other incurable maladies.

It's been a great run, meeting and knowing some of the most intellectually talented people I could have ever been blessed to call friends and family.
