Barbara Holloway Obituary

Barbara Henderson Holloway

May 28, 1932-March 31, 2021

Barbara Henderson Holloway, age 88, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, following a medical procedure in Boise. She was born in Hansen, Idaho, the daughter of Edward and Lois Slack Henderson. Married to Bob Holloway of Twin Falls for 61 years, they raised their family on small dairy farms throughout Magic Valley for over five decades. Together, they celebrated the birth of their five children, thirteen grandchildren, and twenty-two great grandchildren. Barbara is survived by four of her children: Victoria Holloway (John Berglund) of Denver, Colorado, Ann Holloway Bybee of Twin Falls, Bill (Leslie) Holloway of Buhl, and John (Jody) Holloway of Filer.

Similar to many in her generation, Barbara Holloway was shaped by adversity throughout her early life, learned to rise above it, and allowed it to form both her character and her faith. She was born three months prematurely, homesteaded as a child in Oregon, and experienced poverty throughout The Great Depression. Her first-born son, Mike, was diagnosed at an early age with Type 1 diabetes, a difficult challenge for young parents at that time. Consequently, Barbara advocated for diabetes education throughout her life, as well as for fundraising to assist all children with chronic illness.

Barbara was named a Lifetime Ministry Recipient from the Twin Falls First Baptist Church. She was proud to be named an honorary Future Farmers of America (FFA) member for her years of service to the program. She also served for eight years as the Administrative Director for the Ag-Forestry Foundation in Spokane, Washington. As was noted by her foundation colleagues when she retired, "Barbara lets you know where she stands, but she always cares. Everyone appreciated her attention to detail, her work ethic, and her forthrightness." In her off hours, Barbara operated a hand plucking poultry business.

During her retirement years in Twin Falls, Barbara volunteered for the Lion's Club, attended the First Baptist Church, and was a vocal cheerleader at her grandchildren's extracurricular activities. She also took up woodworking and managed Ken Henderson's Sun Valley Suns. One of her retirement highlights was traveling with her husband to Ethiopia on an agricultural mission. Working with orphanages, she taught animal husbandry and chicken coop construction. Barbara enjoyed camping, carpentry, county fairs, fellowship, gardening, mule rides, rodeos, and wagon trains. Although, most of all, she loved being surrounded by the different Holloway generations that she helped raise and provide for. She exemplified a strong endearing woman, friend, wife, mother, granny, and great granny. Her presence will be missed, and her life remembered by all who knew her.

The family requests no flowers, although friends are encouraged to send a contribution to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Or, in honor of Barbara's lifelong passion for soil conservation, plant a tree somewhere in Twin Falls in her memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, 910 Shoshone Street East, Twin Falls. Masks and social distancing will be required. If one cannot attend, Zoom participation will be made available.
