Brent Banner Obituary

Brent S. Banner

Aug. 31, 1960 - July 31, 2024

HEYBURN – Brent S. Banner was born August 31, 1960, at the Cottage Hospital in Burley, Idaho. He was the sixth and last child born to Golden Leo and Helen Wilma (Stoddard) Banner.

Brent's life was filled with family, work and play. He started work at the tender age of three helping his father and brothers lift bricks to build the family home that was his home until his death. He assisted this father working on family vehicles, learning the value of hard labor.

He graduated from Minico High School and subsequently served in the Florida Tampa Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon completion of his missionary service he attended Ricks College, in Rexburg, where he studied welding.

In 1984, he joined the United States Navy as a Machinist Mate working with oxygen systems on nuclear submarines. In 1995, he left the service in Hawaii and returned home to help his mother, Helen, who was struggling with her health following her retirement.

He joined his oldest brother, Milton, driving long-haul trucks until it proved necessary to have more time at home. He then worked for Circle A Trucking and Transsystems LLC as a local truck driver until an opportunity became available to work at IMCO-Idaho as a welder, manufacturing various types of trailers. He truly enjoyed the camaraderie with the men he worked with.

Brent loved family. Growing up in his family included hunting, fishing and family reunions. He continued participating in the yearly family reunions of extended family and counted many of his cousins as friends, as well as relatives. He was a favorite of countless members of the family as he participated in various games. Even as he entered into the level of being in the oldest surviving generation, he jumped in enjoying all those around. He never had the blessings of parenthood so he filled that void with loving extended family.

He loved being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 2015, he accepted a call to serve as a temple worker. He fulfilled his role on the early Saturday morning shift arising at 3:00 a.m. to prepare and to open the Twin Falls Temple for other workers. With rare exception, he was there weekly until the last two weeks prior to his death. Receiving a name tag as a service missionary for the temple was an honor and he wore it proudly, even while serving as the ward music director. His bass voice was a staple in the thriving Heyburn 1st Ward choir.

Brent passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an older sister, Julie.

He leaves behind his oldest brother, Milton L. (Kathleen) Banner; a sister, Bertha M. Shaw; two additional brothers: Leslie S. (Elva Jo) Banner and Mark S. (Melissa) Banner; 14 nieces and nephews; and 24 great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral was held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Heyburn 1st Ward, located at 530 Villa Dr., in Heyburn. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery in Heyburn. Military Rites were provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group.

Such a sad surprise to learn of Brent's passing. He was a treasured friend and a faithful home teacher our family enjoyed and love. We enjoyed his visits, his humor and his continued service. He showed up in times of sorrow and joy even after his release. The spirit world is more joyous now, while this one is a little less. We are happy for his life and future.

I was sad to hear of Brent´s passing but happy that if it was time to go, that it was quick. When I got talked into learning to play the organ he would tease me weekly that I wasn´t playing fast enough, so I helped him get the calling to lead the music in Sacrament meeting! After that the race was on and we had fun providing the music. Always a jokester he gave me a digital metronome! I loved the friendship and teasing that he offered me.... I have really missed playing with him leading due to a shoulder injury the last couple years. Brent was witty and always full of funny remarks to anything and everything I said.... He will be missed but I´ have no doubt he is enjoying the reunion with family and friends. Thanks for the fun memories
