Dorothy Lorayne Pfefferle
Feb. 15, 1936 - Dec. 14, 2023
BOISE - Dorothy Pfefferle was born in Yankton, SD to Arthur and Margaret Reetz on February 15, 1936. She was a surprise - born when Margaret was 40 and Arthur was 60. She joined her older brothers: Harry, Rex, Bob and Arthur, Jr. Her father passed away when she was six years old, but despite the void that left she lived an almost idyllic youth in small town South Dakota.
Mom graduated from high school in 1954 and was part of a close knit class of people who were very special to her. Her most special relationship from high school was with her husband Reid, who she began dating as a junior and to whom she was devoted for the remainder of her life.
Dorothy graduated from Yankton College with a degree in Microbiology and worked as a Medical Technologist, first in Yankton, and most recently at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls. In the years just before retirement, she obtained a certification in Infection Control and served as MVRMC's first Infection Control Practitioner.
After retiring, she continued working as a consultant in infection control with her own business, Magic Valley Infection Control.
Mom and Dad were married in 1958, and their son, Lawrence and daughter, Lisa were born soon after. In 1963, they left South Dakota for Twin Falls, ID where they lived until 2020. Soon after arriving in Idaho, their daughter, Shawna was born, completing the family.
Throughout her life, music was very important to Mom. She learned to play the piano as a child and loved playing for pleasure. Duets with her brother, Art were rare and special events she cherished. In high school she was a percussionist and after moving to Twin Falls, she enjoyed playing the piano for early morning services at Ascension Episcopal Church where she was a member for over 50 years.
When Alzheimer's took hold, Mom and Dad moved to Boise to be closer to family. She received loving care at Morningstar Assisted Living and most recently at Touchmark Memory Care and Keystone Hospice.
In addition to her husband, Reid and her children: Lawrence (Suzy) Pfefferle, Lisa (Pat) Parks, and Shawna (Greg) Kittridge, Mom is survived by her seven grandchildren, of whom she was immensely proud - Ashlee (Travis) Greenwood, Drew (Amanda D'Souza) Pfefferle, Samantha (Michael) Vickery, Megan (Mike Lycklama) Kittridge, Jason Kittridge, Alexis Pfefferle, and Jeff (Katie) Knight. She also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren: Leah, Paige, Wyatt, Sawyer, Bennett, Cowan, and Huxley. She will be truly missed by all.
Following cremation, no public services are planned.
