James Sloane Obituary

James 'Jim' David Sloane

January 8, 2021 ~ October 27, 1947

James 'Jim' David Sloane, age 73, peacefully passed to be with Jesus in his home in Twin Falls, Idaho on Friday, January 8, 2021. Jim, surrounded by family and friends when he passed, was exactly where he wanted to be.

An Ohio native, he was the eldest son of William and Juanita Sloane, born on October 27, 1947. Born into a family with a farm, every morning before school he would run up the hill, as fast as he could, to feed the cows, and did all of this before heading off to school. His siblings would say this is how he got to be a fast runner and eventually earn his High School Letter's in Track. Jim attended Toronto High School, and graduated class of 1966, in Toronto Ohio.

He always wanted a life beyond the farm and was soon drafted before his 20th birthday. Enlisting in the United States Air Force, he proudly and honorably served his country in the Vietnam War, as an aircraft mechanic. After active duty he continued his career in civil service in aircraft maintenance at Travis Air Force Base, in California. Jim excelled at anything he put his mind to, and that included his career. He had a passion for being a Licensed Pilot, Pilot Trainer, and NRA Firearms Instructor. Jim was an avid hunter (his favorite was Elk hunting), outdoor sports and recreation, and all things related to guns. He purchased his first gun as a young man, at a local pawn shop in his home town of Toronto, and he taught himself how to build guns and make his own ammunition. He became one of the finest instructor's on gun safety and responsible gun ownership.

Jim had so many accomplishments in one lifetime, and it's hard to list them all, but to add a few more to the above, he also volunteered to remodel homes for the needy, assisted in the construction of the sanctuary at the Fathers House in Vacaville, and always gallantly served others and his church. Jim finished out his career, and retired from civil service at Travis Air Force Base, in Vacaville, California.

His years in California is where he met so many of his life-long friends, as well as his beloved wife, Rosie.

If you ask anyone about Jim, they would tell you that the thing that he loved the most was family. His family and friends meant the world to him. If you had the privilege to know him, then your life was made better for it. If you ever had a conversation with him, you will also never forget it!

Jim is preceded in death by his loving parents, William and Juanita Sloane, and his baby sister Paula.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife, Rosie Sloane; children, Jimmy, Shawn and his wife Erika, Christina and her husband Zach, Rose Marie, and Shanna and her husband Jeremy; grandchildren, Hannah, Miles, Ben, Kaila, Payten and Zoey; brothers, Bill, John, Charlie and Paul; sisters, Helen, Charlene, Marlene and Christine.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life in both Twin Falls, Idaho, and his hometown of Toronto, Ohio in the coming months. We would also like to express our thanks to Jim and Donna Klauser, Horizon Hospice, and Rosenau Funeral Home of Twin Falls, Idaho, for their compassion and care during his final days. Jim has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior, and he is once again made whole. Condolences may be sent to 1925 Bitterroot Drive, Twin Falls, ID 83301. If you wish to make a memorial contribution in Jim's honor, you may do so at any of the following charities: St. Jude's Hospital, The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the National Rifle Association (NRA). May God bless you. -Sloane Family
