Joyce Taylor Obituary

Joyce Taylor

February 17, 1943 - March 18, 2025

Joyce Elaine Taylor, 82, of Jerome, passed away on March 18, 2025, at Desano Place in Jerome, Idaho.

Joyce was born on February 17, 1943, in Burley, Idaho, to Glenn and Beth Funk. She was lovingly raised by her grandma, Clara Funk. She attended Miller Elementary and graduated from Burley High School in 1961 with honors. The summer before her senior year she attended a summer institute for Journalism in Chicago. She was awarded a scholarship to Brigham Young University based on her academic achievements. After 2 years at BYU while home for a semester working, she met Leonard (Jimmy) Parton. They married and were blessed with three children, Spencer, Laurie, and Jodi.

After their divorce, Joyce remarried John Doerflinger and moved to Jerome, Idaho. After this brief marriage, Joyce was then introduced to Raymond Taylor by her good friend. They were married in 1974. With this marriage came Ray's children, Dan, David, and Angie. The following year they welcomed their beloved daughter, Erin. Their blended family also included Kevin, a son of Ray's first wife. Joyce and Ray remained in Jerome and were married for 48 years until Ray passed away in February of 2023.

Joyce had a deep love for gardening, flowers, reading, and finding treasures at auctions and garage sales. Her and Ray were the experts to consult regarding these subjects for family and friends. She worked full time while raising her family. She was a valued employee in her various positions and enjoyed many years at the Job Service, North Side News, and Seminis Seed Company where she retired. She kept busy after retirement traveling, caring for her grandson Payton, and serving as an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the local American Legion.

Joyce is survived by her children, Erin Taylor, Spencer Parton, Laurie Parton, Jodi (Pat) Bragassa, Dan Taylor, David (Heather) Taylor, Angie (Sean, dec.) Sanderson, and Kevin (Jennifer) Taylor; sisters, Patricia Heidel, Pamela (Gary) Wight; brother, Kenneth (Glenda) Funk; one aunt, June Sandlian; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Clara and Rufus Funk; maternal grandparents, Darlean and David Drussel; parents, Beth Jeffs and Glenn Funk; sister, Barbara Ann Funk; and her brother, Glen Rufus Funk.

Words cannot express the gratitude and sincere thanks to the staff at Desano Place Village in Jerome and Hospice Visions for their thoughtful and loving care of Joyce. We are appreciative of all of you who have helped and acknowledged our loss.

Joyce is home now and free from a disease she bravely battled in her final years. She is united with loved ones and living an eternal life of peace.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 3, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 50 East 100 South Jerome, Idaho.
