Lois Sanford Obituary

Lois Lucille (Rogers) Sanford

April 22, 1936 - May 18, 2021

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandma Lois Lucille (Rogers) Sanford left this earth to join our father in heaven on May 18, 2021. Lois was born on April 22, 1936, to Fred and Mildred Rogers. She was a lifelong resident of the Mini-Cassia area; where she attended grade school, high school, and graduated from business school in Twin Falls.

While riding on a float in the Rupert Fourth of July Parade, George Sanford tossed rocks Lois's way to gain her attention. They married on February 12, 1955, in Elko, Nevada, and kept each other's attention until their last days. They were blessed with six children: Carey, Terry, Brenda, Bryan, Lori, and Melanie. The family made their home in Paul where Lois grew a phenomenal garden, was an amazing seamstress and hosted many family dinners for her loved ones. She loved to garden and enjoyed having her grandchildren help her pick through the dozens of rows of strawberries and raspberries, even allowing them to eat a few before being washed as long as they didn't tell their mom. Her cellar was always full of the many fruits and vegetables that she canned and her granddaughter still boasts that she never ate a canned food until college. Grandma always had the best green beans, corn, cherries, and peaches. The children looked forward to Christmas each year when they would receive a batch of the preserves that Lois made from that year's harvest. She made the best bread, rolls, and cinnamon rolls. Along with her cooking skills, Lois was an amazing seamstress. Her children and grandchildren enjoyed the fruits of her labor. She would make them matching Fourth of July outfits: shirts, dresses, pants, and shorts. There was no limit to her sewing skills. She would sit at her machines for hours watching the grandchildren play in the backyard from the windows on the second floor. Lois grew row after row of beautiful flowers and often won blue ribbons at the county fair for her flower arrangements. As she grew older her garden got smaller but it continued to flourish. Lois shared her skills with her grandchildren and will forever be remembered as teaching terrific life skills: mowing lawns and keeping the lines straight, balancing a checkbook, completing IRS taxes by hand, making the perfect spaghetti sauce, and above all persevering through life's challenges.

Lois is survived by her son Terry (Brenda) Sanford, daughter Brenda Sue (Paul) Garza, son Bryan Scott (Gloria) Sanford, daughter Lori (Chester) Younger, and daughter Melanie (Ricky) Meyers, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The last two years were hard on Lois as her health declined, but she remained positive knowing that when her time came she would be ready. The family would like to thank our Encompass Team: Laura, Joy, Nickie, and Dr. Helms for all the home visits and care. Also a big thank you to Hollie, Desi, and the team from Hearts for Seniors. Lois was able to remain in her home surrounded by family because of the terrific staff at these two establishments.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at the Paul Cemetery. Memorial services for George Sanford will also be held at this time (George passed away at home December 23, 2020, with Military Rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans) services are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
