Mayna McGill Obituary

Mayna Virginia Meline McGill

May 14, 1941 - July 30, 2021

Mayna Virginia Meline McGill, 80, passed away July 30, 2021, at her home in Burley. She was born in the family home, on May 14, 1941, to Carl and Dora (Halford) Meline. She was the 5th of eight children born to the union. Mayna graduated from Burley High School in the spring of 1959. Later that fall she met Luther McGill Jr while working at the Unity Store. What started out as an almost missed opportunity, turned into nearly 62 years of marriage. They were married on December 5, 1959, in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 12, 1991. Together they had three daughters and one son.

Music was always the staple of Mayna's life. From a very early age, it was apparent that she was born with a natural ability and gift for music, especially playing the piano. All her life Mayna took lessons to perfect her gift. Generously, she provided countless hours of piano and organ playing to her community. The number of times her fingers touched the piano and organ keys combined with the number of lives she touched through sharing her musical talent is innumerable. Mayna created a legacy that she hoped would continue through the many students that she taught over the last 45 plus years, retiring just one month before her death.

At the heart of Mayna, she was a homemaker. Mayna and Jr created a home known to their family as the "gathering place". It was where family traditions were born and nurtured. It was the place where we were loved the best. Family was important to Mayna. She celebrated holidays with epic decorating, spoiling grandchildren with birthday shopping sprees, movie trips to the theatre highlighted with endless treats, Thanksgiving slumber parties with the cousins where numerous pies were consumed during the night, and family reunions at Lagoon's Frightmares. Mayna was an accomplished seamstress. She was also an amazing cook, best known for her outstanding holiday pies and dressing.

Mayna is survived by her husband Jr, children Carrie Chappel, Steven (Jenny) McGill, Lori (Sam) Yoshida, and Lisa (Clint) Goss, 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Marian Steel, two brothers Kent (Claire) Meline, and Lewis Meline.

What a joyous reunion Mayna is having with her parents whom she hasn't seen in 46 years, one sister Jeanie Meline, three brothers, Gerald Meline, Leon Meline, Donald Meline, and two sweet granddaughters, Bethany Tolle and Stacy Ercanbrack.

Morrison's Funeral Home, 188 HIGHWAY 24 Rupert, Idaho, will be holding Mayna's viewing Thursday, August 5, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery, Burley, Idaho, on August 6th, at 11:00 a.m.

We´re sorry to hear this, but know she´s in a wonderful place! May the Lord bless and comfort the family. Mayna was our daughter´s piano teacher & we appreciated her for the many beautiful songs she taught her. Music is a song of the heart.

I remember Mayna teaching beautiful songs to our daughter, Janelle. I also loved to hear her play in a piano quartet at our Patriotic Program at the LDS BURLEY STAKE CENTER. Quite a wonderful lady! May the Lord bless and comfort the family with love, peace,& happiness! The Byingtons
