Richard Cone Obituary

Richard Glen Cone

July 15, 1950 - June 18, 2024

GOODING - Richard Glen Cone, 73, of Gooding, passed away on June 18, 2024, after an extended battle with Pulmonary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS).

Richard was born in Liberal, Kansas to Henry and Ruby Cone on July 15, 1950. He quickly found a love for all things agriculture and was active in 4-H and FFA throughout his youth. Rich was proud of his American Farmer Degree and was a lifelong supporter of both organizations.

Rich attended Washington State University, where he obtained a degree in Agricultural Business, and if they could, have given him a minor in Redneck Engineering. If you knew Rich, he was your go-to guy for figuring out how to get things done. Rich settled in the Magic Valley for the rest of his years, but he always said Gooding was home.

Rich wore many professional hats in his life. He was a banker, custom hay farmer, hay broker, salesman, trucker, mechanic, etc. If it was AG related, he probably did it.

You also rarely ever saw Rich without his dog. As much as he loved working the land, he enjoyed doing it with a 4-legged companion. His pets were often as well-known as him. When he would travel the road on tracking hay, he had stops where his dog would go in and secure a room for him. This was one of his favorite stories to tell.

During the final years of Rich's life, he added another hat to his professional life, storyteller. Not other people's stories, but his own. As people would visit Rich, he would often recount many of his life adventures with them. The common take away from all the people who spent time with him was that he had done so many things.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ruby Cone and his brother, David Cone. Richard was survived by his daughter, Kelsey (Jeffery) Schulz, significant other, Marjorie Brockman, sister, Donna (David) Dahlstrom, sister, Sharon (Kevin) Hanson, brother, Joe (Kathy) Cone, sister, Kathryn Marshall, his three grand-daughters: Ruby, Kennedy and Keely Schulz and many nieces/nephews.

The graveside services for Richard will be at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding on July 2, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. A memorial service will be held at Rosenau Funeral home in Twin Falls on July 2, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with a gathering to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Association in Richard's name through als.org.

A special and heartfelt thank you to all the compassionate and loving staff at Bridgeview Skilled Nursing and Hospice Visions for their exceptional care and support of Richard.
