Terry Hollifield Obituary

Terry Hollifield

October 5, 1947 - June 9, 2025

Terry Hollifield, a beloved figure in the community and an esteemed member of the agricultural world, passed away on June 9, 2025, at his farm in Hansen, Idaho. Born on October 5, 1947, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Clarence and Helen Hollifield. He loved his upbringing on the family farm and raised pigs, sheep and many other entrepreneurial endeavors. Terry carried forward his family's farming legacy, which began with his grandfather's move from North Carolina to the Hansen area. Forever passionate about agriculture, Terry proudly worked alongside his son, Larry Hollifield, greatly expanding the family farm. Terry had a personal passion in running a feed yard that cared for 4,000 to upwards of 8,000 head of cattle. His skill in feeding, caring for livestock, and negotiating within the industry marked him as a standout in his field for many years.

Terry graduated from Hansen High School in 1965 and followed in the footsteps of his older brother, Bill, attending the University of Idaho. There, he was a dedicated member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, forging lifelong friendships with his fraternity brothers. One of his brothers introduced Terry to the love of his life, Carol Blodgett. They were married in August of 1970 and would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this August. After Terry completed his degree in Agricultural Economics, he pursued his law degree at the University of Idaho, graduating and passing the bar exam on his first attempt in the summer of 1972. He maintained his law certification for over 53 years. Though he received his law degree, agriculture was always Terry's passion. He said he liked to look behind him at the end of the day and see what he'd accomplished. Terry accomplished a lot in over 50 years in agriculture.

Terry's contributions extended beyond his career; he served as a board member for the Hansen School District for twelve years, was involved with the Idaho Livestock Hall of Fame, and was a supporter of the University of Idaho's Steer-a-Year program, and Vandal Scholarship Fund. His commitment to education and youth was evident in all aspects of his life.

Outside of farming and his professional endeavors, Terry had a playful side that brought joy to many. Known as a jokester, he loved to make those around him laugh. Terry cherished his role as a grandfather, engaging in playful antics such as giving "body crushers" and wrestling with his grandchildren. He took great pride in supporting them at various events, whether in sports or theater, and enjoyed treating them to breakfast crepes at Norm's. Ask one of his grandkids to give you the Hollifield handshake.

Terry is survived by his loving wife, Carol Hollifield; his son, Larry Hollifield; his daughter, Margi Gunter (Clint); and six grandchildren: Aden Hollifield of Twin Falls, Peyton and Colbi Hollifield of Filer, and Vivi, Ali, and Vince Gunter of Sandpoint. He leaves behind his beloved forever daughter-in-law, Christi Hollifield of Filer. Terry is also survived by his sister, Nancy Taylor of Twin Falls; niece, Paige Duerr; and numerous cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Helen Hollifield; and his older brother, Bill Hollifield.

Terry's compassion and care for others have created ripples across many lives. His legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him, shaping the community and nurturing his family with love and laughter. The grace and strength he exhibited will be remembered fondly by all who crossed his path.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Wilks Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, ID 83301, with a viewing from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior. Graveside service will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 2296 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, ID 83301.

I am sorry I missed the funeral. I will miss my roadside conversations with Terry when I would stop to chat with him in the Fall when trapping on his property.

The Hollifield and Naylor families were close. We went to school together, hoed beets and beans, and probably got into trouble. Nancy, we are the last of our families. Hang in there

Terry and I have known each other for 71 years. We were in the first grade together when Terry would decide each morning which female classmate he was going to hang his coat over..... The girls all waited to see who the LUCKY girl was each day..... We have remained friends for 71 years....although he frequently reminded me that when he and I completed for first chair clarinet in the Hansen High School band that our friendship nearly ended, according to him. We remained dear friends for the remaining years in those 71 years. I will miss our phone calls....'till we see each other again.....

Carol & family, We were so sorry to hear of Terry's passing. We went through school together in Hansen, Idaho & he was always such a nice guy and friend. Galan & I have been to reunions & other get togethers through the many years since graduation from Hansen High School & it was always great to visit with He & Carol as the years have passed. He was still the great person he always was & it was a pleasure to see He & Carol. He was funny, serious about the occupation he had for all the passing years and a good friend to so many. We send our deepest condolences to Carol & family. I know he will be missed by everyone who knew him. My Mom & Dad always spoke great things about him and as farmers also, said he was one of the best. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Donna & Galan
