Catherine McFarland Obituary

STREETSBORO - Catherine A. â€sKateâ€t McFarland, 80, of Streetsboro, formerly of North Dunlap Avenue in Youngstown, passed away early Saturday evening, September 6, 2025, at Akron General Hospital with her loving family by her side. Kate was born Wednesday, February 28, 1945, in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Elizabeth Ferguson Bobovnyk. She spent most of her life in Youngstown before moving to Streetsboro to be closer to her family. Kate was a graduate of The Rayen School. She was employed by the Ankle and Foot Care Centers and also worked as a Nurse’s Assistant, and provided private duty care, a field in which she excelled. She was deeply appreciated by the McCauley family for the compassionate care she gave to Terese McCauley during her battle with Alzheimer’s disease. For more than five years, Kate lovingly supported Terese and her family, who remain forever grateful for her kindness, dedication, and unwavering presence during that difficult time. A woman of faith, Kate was a former member of Richard Brown United Methodist Church in Youngstown, where she served as President of the United Methodist Women Organization, President of the Altar Guild, a member of the choir, and Chairperson of the Administrative Council. She carried her faith into all aspects of her life, touching others with her service, her music, and her leadership. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Amy (Michael) Lucia of Streetsboro, with whom she made her home; her son, John (Vicki) McFarland of Austintown; her stepdaughter, Carol (George) Teutsch of Austintown and â€sstepdaughterâ€t Barbara (Frank) Hierro of Poland; her brother, Fred Bobovnyk of Mineral Ridge; her grandchildren, Abbey (George) Summers, Michael Lucia, Melanie (Jamie) Smith, Grace McFarland, Francesca and Zachary Hierro; and her great-grandchildren, Mason and Ella Smith, and Luke and Landon Summers. Besides her parents, Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Wayne McFarland, whom she married June 18, 1966, and who passed away Monday, November 7, 2005; her brothers, James, John, Michael, and Joseph Bobovnyk; and her sisters, Mary Elizabeth Angelo, Martha Pizzulo, Donna M. Ohryn and Barbara and Frank Hierro’s son Wesley. The family will receive relatives and friends Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Streetsboro United Methodist Church, 8940 SR 43 Streetsboro, OH 44241 from 11 a.m. to Noon, immediately followed by a Memorial Service celebrated by Pastor Gordon Blickle. .The family has requested in lieu of flowers please make a donation to Streetsboro United Methodist Church in Kate’s memory.
