Charlotte Williams Pegues Obituary

On the serene morning of February 24, 2025, Charlotte C. Williams Pegues answered the divine call to eternal rest at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering service, love, and devotion. Born on November 3, 1932. in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to the union of Pinkard and Katherine Arnett Williams, Charlotte graced the world with her vibrant spirit and indomitable strength. A proud graduate of Farrell High School, Charlotte epitomized the essence of involvement, contributing her talents to The Reflector Staff, the Cap and Gown Committee, and her Class Basketball Team. After her graduation in 1950, she furthered her education at the National College of Youngstown, laying a strong foundation for her future endeavors. Charlotte was united in holy matrimony to Robert L. Pegues, Sr., on October 15, 1955, a union which was sealed in love and faith until he parted in death. Her professional journey began at the Mercer County Welfare Office, where her unwavering commitment led her to a distinguished career spanning three decades, ultimately serving as a respected supervisor. Charlotte's spiritual journey commenced at Friendship Baptist Church of Farrell, Pennsylvania, guided by the teachings of her great uncle, Rev. Oscar H. Singletary. There, she was baptized and nurtured in faith. Recognized as a Mother of the Church, her distinguished service of over forty years as Church Clerk exemplifies her dedication, along with her pivotal roles in the Missionary Board, Senior Usher Board, Trustee Board, and as the very first African American Clerk for the Beaver Baptist Association of Western Pennsylvania. Beyond her church, Charlotte actively shaped her community through her civic engagement with the Mercer County NAACP, where she served as Past President and Secretary, among many other leadership roles within civic organizations such as the Alltruist Guild and the Mercer County Mental Health Association. Her influence extended to the Boards of United Way, Penn Northwest, American Red Cross, and Shenango Valley Initiative, and she was a proud member of the Frontiers Association. An enthusiast of life, she cherished moments spent bowling, traveling, and nurturing family bonds. Charlotte leaves to cherish her memory a beloved son, Robert L. Pegues Jr. and his wife Tammy J. of McKinney, Texas; her treasured grandchildren, Robert L. Pegues III, Ulysses Preston, Tahfaren Owens, Eric West, and Ciera West; a sister, Vela "Betty "Jackson, wife of Harry, Lindenwold, NJ, devoted nieces Barbara Chavers, Carolyn Peterson, along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. She is greeted in Heaven by her beloved husband, parents, brothers-Willard "Ted," Williams, Lawrence Williams, Lt. Col. Herbert Williams, and Arnett "Butch" Williams-and sisters Goldie "Bunny" Williams and LaTisha Ann Williams, who collectively, form a celestial family united in divine peace. In reverence for her life and legacy, the community is invited to share with the family on Saturday March 8, 2025, at Friendship Baptist Church, 339 Spearman Avenue, Farrell, PA where the roots of her faith were nurtured. The celebration of her life will commence with a public viewing at 10:00 AM followed by the Homegoing Service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Christopher Roberts officiating and Minister Michael Marshall as the eulogist. After the committal ceremony, the celebrated well-lived life will be laid to rest at the Morefield Cemetery in Hermitage PA. In this moment of reflection, let us gather to pay tribute to a woman who exemplified grace, humility, and an enduring spirit-forever cherishing the beautiful tapestry created by her love and devotion.
