Dominic Raco Obituary

Canfield--Dominic A. Raco, 84, of Canfield, lovingly known as "Dino," passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024. He was born on December 20, 1939 in the town of Cirella in Reggio Calabria, Italy and immigrated to the United States at the age of 16. He brought with him a relentless work ethic, an entrepreneurial spirit and a deep love for his family and community. He was a true self-made man. Over the course of his life, he built a legacy of success through hard work and determination. He started out as a barber, earned his real estate license and then progressed into owning multiple commercial properties including a car dealership, laundromat, convenience store and apartment complex. His main passion was owning and operating Dino's Restaurant for 43 years. Dino's became a place where families and friends gathered, forming lasting memories over good food and hospitality. In addition to his entrepreneurial endeavors, he was known for his generosity and his deep pride in his Italian heritage. Dominic is survived by his loving wife, the former Colleen Chick, of 45 years; son, Dominic Raco of Canfield; daughter Natalie Corcoran (T.J.) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; grandchildren, Aidan, Ronan, Caitlin, Keelan, Meghan and Quinn; sister Joanne Carlon (Martin) of New Middletown; and brother Father Francesco Raco of Papua New Guinea. Dominic was preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Elizabeth Yeropoli; two sisters, Mary Polito, and Josephine Buffano; and nephew, Martin Carlon, Jr. Family and friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael Parish in Canfield. Family and friends are encouraged to offer prayers for the family and support via phone call, text, email or may visit the Book of Memories at www.rossifunerals.com.

I am truly sorry for your loss. The news came as a complete surprise to me. I still expect to see him working around the apartments, always quick with a wave, a genuine smile, and friendly greeting. It will take time to get used to his absence, but I believe him to be with Jesus which is a wondrous thing for him. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. God Bless

Growing up on Ayers Street across the street from the Racos was a blessing. Our neighbor hood was made up of mostly Irish , Italian and Slovak people with a melting pot of other nationalities. What a learning experience it was living across the street from two Italian families, the Racos and the Dercolis and next door to the Rangos. They were great neighbors and would do anything for you. I´ve been back to Youngstown for Ayers street reunions. The last one I attended with my mother was at Dinos restaurant in North Jackson. It´s the last time I saw Dino but I´ll never forget that big smile.

A wonderful, gentle man that I was proud to call him "friend". He was more like part of my family to me as
is his family. We watched his children grow up to be be the adults that any parent could only wish for. My heart goes out to his family and most of all Colleen who will bear this loss forever.
