Doris VandenBosch Obituary

Doris VandenBosch Obituary YOUNGSTOWN - Doris LaVerne VandenBosch, 93, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Briarfield at Ashley Circle after a long and fulfilling life. Doris was born August 21, 1930 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late George and Mildred Cover Beck and was a lifelong area resident. Doris graduated from Boardman High School in 1948 and dedicated herself to her family and her faith. She was a devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church, where her commitment to service was evident in every aspect of her involvement. Doris taught Sunday School, served on the church council, headed the church altar guild, and lovingly ran the church nursery. She also took on the responsibility of watching children during choir practice and served as a past president of the Grace Lutheran Women's Group. In addition to her church activities, Doris was an active member of the Women's Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (WELCA) and Church Women United. She held leadership roles in both organizations, including serving as president of two women's circles. Her dedication extended beyond the church walls, as she also sat on the board of trustees at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Community service was a cornerstone of Doris's life. She was involved in numerous organizations, including AARP, the Red Hat Group, and Protestant Family Services, where she served on the board. She was a fraternal member of the Saxon Club and contributed her time and energy to the Shepherd of the Valley Community. Doris was particularly passionate about the "cookie cart" program, where she made a meaningful impact on the lives of others. Outside of her philanthropic pursuits, Doris had a variety of interests. She enjoyed collecting angels, Smurf figurines, and old baby dolls, and she found solace in completing jigsaw puzzles. A nature enthusiast, Doris loved bird watching from her home and delighted in gardening. She also relished in same day road trips and travel experiences. However, above all else, Doris treasured the time she spent with her family, who meant the world to her. Mrs. VandenBosch is survived by her four children, Diane Rota of Austintown, Richard VandenBosch of Austintown, Jon VandenBosch of Austintown and Barbara VandenBosch (Tom) of Youngstown; three grandchildren, Corrie Burgess, Amber (Paul) Stanko, and Drake Rota; five great-grandchildren, Abigail and Isabelle Stanko, Kinsley Rota, Zee Irby and RJ Wilson Irby; her sister, Carol Jean Horst of North Lima and her brother, Richard (Judy) Beck of Canfield. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched throughout her lifetime. Her husband of 42 years, Carl VandenBosch, whom she married July 8, 1950, passed away July 4, 1992. A son in law, Jeff Rota, and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Miller VandenBosch also preceded Doris in death. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2024, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown. Family and friends may gather from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Grace Lutheran Church 162 S. Raccoon Rd., Austintown where a funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Private interment will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman. In lieu of flowers, Doris' family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Grace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to Hospice of the Valley.
