Edward Marsh Obituary

Struthers - Edward Mathew Marsh, 94, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024. Edward, affectionately known as "Ed" and "Yeate," was born July 29, 1929 in Rankin, PA, a son of Michael and Rose (Smokrovich) Marasovich. Ed was a graduate of Struthers High School, Class of 1948. A standout athlete, Ed participated in Struthers baseball, football, and basketball programs. He was the first Struthers High School pitcher to throw a no-hitter and was later inducted into the Wildcat Hall of Fame. Ed also played baseball for the Lansingville Sportsman Ball Club in the AA League in Youngstown. After graduation, he attended the University of Louisville in Kentucky on a football scholarship until enlisting in the United States Navy in 1950. He was stationed in San Diego, CA and served four years before being honorably discharged. Returning to his hometown, Ed worked briefly as a carpenter and then accepted a position with the Struthers Wastewater Treatment Plant. He worked as one of its lead operators, retiring in 1991. On May 10, 1952, Ed married his high school sweetheart, the former Lillian Vlosich, at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. Together, they built their home in Struthers, raised their three children, and were blessed with 56 years of marriage until Lillian preceded him in death on May 10, 2008. A dedicated family man, Ed was always present for his family and nothing brought him more joy than spending time with them. His family was truly blessed to have him and they couldn't have asked for a better husband, dad, and grandpa. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing with his son, golfing with his son, son-in-law Mark, and his lifelong friends, listening to polka music on his radio, and maintaining his home, in which he took great pride. A former member of the Men's Mill Creek Garden Club, Ed also enjoyed tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, especially his roses. Ed was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed participating in the church's activities and volunteered for many years at the annual festival with his wife. Ed will be lovingly remembered for his thoughtfulness, positive outlook on life, and infectious smile. Ed leaves to carry on his memory, his children, Edward D. (Patty) Marsh of New Middletown, Patti (Mark) McClure of Struthers, and Cheryl (Larry) Ryan of Struthers; grandchildren, Katie (Matt McCrimmon) Marsh, Matt (Abby) McClure, Maggie (Jon) Keenan, Mike (Michelle) McClure, Zachary Richards, and Nathan (Bailey Eckman) Richards; step-grandchildren, Alexa (Austin) Yemma, Jakob Ryan, and Colin Ryan; great-grandchildren, Maizey McClure, Adrian Richards, Harper Keenan, Declan Keenan, Mason McClure, and Maverick McClure; sister-in-law, Kay Marsh; and brother-in-law, Steve Styranec. In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by siblings, infant Sammy Marasovich, Joseph (Fleta) Marsh, John "Clark" Marsh, Andrew (Violette) Marasovich, Emily (Sam) Smiley, Mary (Joseph) DeLost, Elaine (John) Lengyel; brother-in-law, John (Eleanor) Vlosich; and sister-in-law, Marcia Styranec. The family will greet friends on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 10-10:45 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow in Lake Park Cemetery.
