Edward Mosca Obituary
The world lost the brightest light with the passing of Edward Mosca, 82, of Niles, on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth's Youngstown Hospital.
Ed was born on January 18, 1942, in Palena, Italy, the son of Joseph and Eredice Martinelli Mosca. He came to the United States in 1955 as a young boy and began a life marked by hard work and determination to build a wonderful future.
A graduate of Youngstown Chaney High School, Ed attended Youngstown State University before being drafted by the military. A skilled tradesman, Ed worked numerous jobs before building a 30-year career as a machinist at RMI Titanium, where he retired in 2004. He was a member of Saint Pope John XXIII Catholic Church-Mount Carmel Campus and the Niles Knights of Columbus Council 1681.
A proud veteran, Ed served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, earning honors such as the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, and the Parachutist Badge. He enjoyed sharing stories of his paratrooper days, which were some of his favorite memories.
On April 3, 1971, Ed married the love of his life, Mary Jane Montevideo. Together, they built a warm, welcoming home in Niles, where they raised four children. As a devoted husband and father, Ed worked tirelessly to provide for his family, often taking on night shifts, overtime, and weekend work to ensure they had every happiness.
A man of endless generosity, Ed shared his skills and time with family, friends, and neighbors, offering his expertise in plumbing, electrical, woodworking, mechanics, and much more. Known as a "jack of all trades," he was an invaluable friend and mentor, always ready to lend a hand.
Ed pursued many hobbies, especially gardening, winemaking, canning, and investing. He took pride in sharing the fruits of his labor with loved ones, including his homemade wine and cherished Hungarian hot peppers. He had a love of old cars, John Denver music, and took meticulous care of his home and garden.
Known for his quick wit, Ed always had a joke ready, bringing laughter to all around him. His warm smile and kindness were felt by everyone he met. His love for his family, especially his grandchildren, was endless. He enjoyed Italian delicacies and cherished simple moments, like dipping bread in his wife's sauce. A lifelong learner himself, he worked tirelessly to provide his children and grandchildren with the opportunity to pursue a college education, which he considered an important foundation for their future.
Though Ed bravely fought his battle with cancer, he found peace in knowing his journey continues in heaven, where his light will shine on.
