Edward Stephenson Obituary

Edward Mooney Stephenson, Sr., 69, of Hubbard, OH, passed away suddenly while vacationing in Florida on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in Orlando Regional Medical Center. Mr. Stephenson was born on June 10, 1954, in Sharon, a son of the late Francis and Sara (Mehler) Stephenson. He was a graduate of Kennedy Catholic High School, Class of 1972. Following in his father's footsteps, he began his career in 1972 at National Fuel in Clark. He started as a meter reader and retired as a foreman in 2010. Ed loved socializing and the Avalon at Buhl Country Club. Therefore following his retirement he began working at the country club, checking guests into the fitness center. He started the "Stephenson Happy Hour" at his parents' home, sharing Manhattens every Sunday evening. Affectionately known as "Papa Stephenson Sir" by his grandchildren and granddaughter-to-be, he loved spending time with them and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers games with his family. Family was always first in his eyes, and he looked forward to his family reunions at Geneva on the lake. Ed was notorious for giving those closest to him a nickname, many of which originated out of nowhere. Following retirement, he looked forward to making two trips a year to Florida with Diane. He also enjoyed getting together with his Saturday night dinner and travel group. He is survived by his fiancé and bride-to-be in May of 2024, Diane Haywood; three children, Edward Mooney Stephenson, Jr. (Megan), Austin, TX, Patrick Grape Stephenson, Kingsland, GA, and Katherine Byrne Budd, Hermitage; brother-in-law, Walter Krofchik; two step-children, Sean Haywood (Dominique), Clark, and Kayla Haywood and her fiancé Austyn Volpe, Hermitage; four grandchildren, twins Aidan and Haley "Hazel" Lawrence, Declan Budd, and Oliver Stephenson; a step-granddaughter, Harper Haywood; a sister, Anne Piotrowicz (Lawrence), Erie, PA; three brothers, John Stephenson, S. Pymatuning Twp., Paul Stephenson (Karen), Hermitage, and Hugh Stephenson (Ruby), Mars; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Mary "Mimi" Stephenson; a brother, Francis "Frank" Stephenson; and a beloved sister-in-law, Kim Stephenson. Per Ed's wishes, there will be no service. The family will hold a celebration of Ed's life at a later date.
