Elizabeth Long Obituary

Elizabeth J. Long, 92, of Rome, formerly of Taberg, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025 with her loving family by her side. She was born on January 29, 1933 in Utica, the daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie Piluso Sarcone. She was raised and educated in Utica. She was married to Edward Long, her husband of 59 years, until his passing in 2015. She worked at the Neighborhood Center in Utica and with the help of Ruth Wright became their bookkeeper. She worked there until she left to help her husband run and operate Eddie's Paramount Diner until her retirement. Betty's family always came first. While living in Taberg, Betty was a Troop Leader for her daughter's Brownie Troop, a Den Mother for her son's Cub Scout Pack and she also worked on the committee to build the recreational playground in Taberg. She was well known for the cookies she made at Christmas, for being a Dallas Cowboys fan, and for being an even bigger New York Yankees fan. Betty loved to play pitch with her family on Sunday afternoons. She was also a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Meeker-O'Rourke Post #1309. Betty is survived by her three children, Jennifer Long of Rome, Mary Kay Jackson of Oriskany, and Edward (Lori) Long of Rome, her cherished grandchildren, Lisa (Andy) Hicks, Lindsay Jackson, Lauryn Long, Emily Long, and Teddy Long, her adored great grandchildren, Leah, Hallie, Bobby, Kenny and Tripp; a sister-in-law Delores Sarcone and brother-in-law Gerald (Debbie) Long and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Sarcone, a sister Dolores Kiernan, a son-in-law Kenny Jackson, brother-in-law Donald Long, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Lois Bauer. Betty's love and friendship will be missed by many. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9 am Tuesday at St. Patrick's Church, Taberg. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 pm at Strong- Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. In lieu of flowers please consider making donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Smile Train Foundation or The Jessica's Heroes Foundation.
