Hedrick Lucy Obituary
HUBBARD Hedrick Lucy, 82, of Hubbard, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 19, 2025. Born January 17, 1943, to Herman and Virgie Lucy, Hedrick grew up on Island #26 on the Mississippi River alongside his eight siblings. His childhood was filled with adventure, mischief, and laughter-memories that would shape his fun-loving and spirited nature for the rest of his life.
Hedrick spent nearly four decades working as a railroad conductor-a career that not only took him across the country but ultimately led him to Hubbard, Ohio. It was there, during a stop at Tony's, that he met Barbara, the love of his life. From that chance encounter bloomed a beautiful love story that lasted 56 years, filled with devotion, laughter, and a strong family foundation.
After retiring, Hedrick embraced his most cherished role: grandfather. He was always present-first in the school pick-up line, quick to lend a listening ear, and never hesitating to turn around for a forgotten book or assignment. He was always cheering them on from the sidelines, sporting his signature railroad hat, his pride in his grandchildren was unmatched. When not with family, Hedrick enjoyed life's simple pleasures-watching westerns, catching up on the evening news, or just "piddling around" the house, content in his own company. He had a smile that could melt the world-and he did, one person at a time, through kindness, humor, and unwavering love.
Hedrick will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. His memory lives on through his children, David, Mary, and Richard; his eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by one brother and one sister.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Lucy; his parents; and six siblings.
The Lucy family extends their heartfelt thanks to Mercy Health Hospice for the care and compassion shown during Hedrick's final days.
In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held at this time.
Hedrick's spirit lives on-in every train whistle that echoes in the distance, and in the hearts of all who loved him.
Arrangements are being handled by the Kelley-Cummins Funeral Home.
