Irene Marino Obituary

Irene Mary Marino went home to be with the Lord surrounded by immediate family, Cheryl Marino-Drews, Bill & Jared Drews on October 20, 2024 in Redondo Beach, CA. She died of natural causes. She was at the AMAZING age of 100! She made the Centurion Club, only achieved by less than 1% of the population. Irene Mary Marino was born on July 28, 1924, in Crescent, Ohio. Her parents were Louis and Mary (Kosto) Katona. She was born & raised in Crescent, Ohio and was a lifelong resident of Niles, Ohio. She spent her final years with her daughter Cheryl, son-in-law Bill, and grandson Jared in Redondo Beach, CA. After graduating High School, she worked as a nurses aid in Southern Ohio and then shortly after moved to the Niles/Youngstown Area with her sister, Irma Bochu, where she worked as a home health aid. She met her husband, Richard Dominic Marino, a lifelong resident of Niles, Ohio and married November 8, 1952. In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband-Richard Dominic Marino, brothers-John Katona of Wheeling, W. VA., Louis Katona of Adena, Ohio and sister Irma Bochu of Palmdale, CA. Surviving are her children, daughters- Cheryl Marino-Drews of Redondo Beach, CA, Lynette Sue Marino of Howland, Ohio and son Rick J. Marino, of Niles, Ohio. Grandsons- Jared Drews of Redondo Beach, CA and Ricky A. Marino of Niles, Ohio. Two great grandchildren-Trip and Sabrina Marino of Niles, Ohio. One sister, Margaret Dekleva of Willowick, Ohio. Irene was simply, The Greatest! She was a very loving, caring, and supportive mother & spouse. She was loved by many and always added a fiery spirit to any gathering or party. She loved to dance and won many dance contests with her husband Richard early on- Jitterbug and later polka dancing at the local Italian festivals and Idora Park Ballroom. She had a love for shopping, cooking and decorating! She was a proud homemaker. Although she was of a Hungarian descent, she learned to cook the best homemade Italian food, along with her heritage of stuffed peppers, cabbage & noodles, and Hungarian goulash. She was always dressed to perfection with her hair, nails, makeup, jewelry, and coordinating outfits, even up until the beautiful age of 100! She loved to travel with her daughter, Cheryl of Redondo Beach, visiting Maui, Hawaii, a cruise out of New Orleans to Mexico, Las Vegas, Napa Valley, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Arizona, Palm Springs, CA to name a few! She spent her final eleven years in Redondo Beach, CA with her daughter, Cheryl, son in law, Bill, and grandson Jared. She celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends with a BIG celebration including live music, catered Italian Food, and was interviewed and featured in the local beach newspaper, The Easy Reader, for reaching the age of 100! She will be remembered by many for her love for fun, food, especially deserts, and traveling. Her funeral mass will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, 10am PST, 1pm EST, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Manhattan Beach, Ca. officiated by Monsignor John F. Barry. The mass can be viewed by livestream on americanmartyrs.org for out-of-town family & friends.
