James Divens Obituary

James Arthur Divens, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, at the age of 86. James was born on November 2, 1938, in Rimersburg, Pennsylvania and grew up in West Middlesex, to the late James and Beatrice Divens. He was one of nine children and grew up in a close-knit, loving family with siblings Alexanderine, Barbara, Iris, Nancy, Judith, William, Raymond, and Timothy. Of his siblings, only William (Kathy) survives him. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews, as well as his special sister-in-law, Deborah Seaborn. James proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army, an experience that shaped his quiet strength, strong character, and enduring sense of duty. He shared a beautiful 60-year marriage with his beloved wife, Barbara (Randolph) Divens. Their life together was a testament to enduring love, mutual respect, and shared joy. James was a proud father to James "Randy" (Nicole) Divens and Darla (Mark) Roman. He was also a deeply cherished grandfather to Brendan Sigler, Ryan (Sol) Divens, Connor (Teresa) Divens, Alex Roman, Eddie Roman, and Lilly Roman. His grandchildren brought him immense joy and pride, and he found great happiness in watching them grow. James had a strong work ethic and spent much of his career at Westinghouse and Control Transformer. In retirement, he continued working part-time at Mr. Tool, where he enjoyed staying active and connected with others. In his later years, James found daily joy in walking at Buhl Park, where he became a familiar and friendly face to fellow walkers-always carrying dog treats in his pocket for their four-legged companions. He was an avid reader and had a sharp mind, especially when it came to the New York Times crossword puzzle, which he looked forward to solving every Saturday. He also had a passion for classic cars and loved attending car shows. James will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his generous heart, and the steady love he gave to everyone around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on in the family he treasured and the many lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in James's memory to Buhl Park, 715 Hazen Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148, a place he loved and supported. In accordance with his wishes, no memorial service will be held.
