James Guerino Obituary

James (Jimmy) Samuel Guerino, 76, of Farrell, passed away Wednesday morning, October 2, 2024, in UPMC Jameson Hospital, New Castle. Mr. Guerino was born November 9. 1947, in Sharon, a son of the late Eugene and Lucille (Palmer) Guerino. A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Farrell High School in 1965. Jimmy earned a bachelor's degree in English from Edinboro University and a master's degree in communications from Clarion University. In high school, he developed a lifelong passion for the arts. He received the Paul Komar Art Award, and he performed in several plays which include 'Fantastics", "Finnian's Rainbow" and "Midsummer Night's Dream". He followed that passion in college with a love for Shakespeare and performed in plays at Edinboro and the Yale Drama Festival. He was also known as an avid photographer, who developed his own photos. He was an athlete in high school and he was inducted into the Farrell School District Hall of Fame. Jimmy spent the first 15 years of his career as a teacher in the Farrell School District. He also spent a number of years working with area businesses in various capacities. Later he became the Farrell City Manager, until an accident forced him to retire. As a man with integrity and an advocate of improvement, he volunteered in various capacities throughout the region. He loved his hometown of Farrell, PA. His wife called him "Mr. Farrell". He would attend as many athletic events as possible and was an advocate for anything Farrell. He served on the Farrell School District Board for more than 25 years. He was also on the board for Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid supporter of the Mercer County Handicap Coalition. Jimmy was the event coordinator for the Bavarian Fun Fest starting in 1981 and in that year, as the coordinator, had the opportunity to attend the annual Bavarian Fest in Munich, Germany. He was always a teacher at heart and loved sharing his stories with family and friends, often visiting friends and relatives in the neighborhood in his walkabouts in his power chair. He was known for his quick wit and "Jimmyisms", which will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone that knew him. He adored his family and enjoyed bragging about their accomplishments. He tried to attend every event that his children and grandchild participated in. He appreciated the visits from Gianna, John, John-Michael and Kayla. He loved the family get-togethers and thoroughly enjoyed the pizza parties and other recipes from Justin and Mandy. He looked forward to Jordan's garden every summer. He appreciated Jason's and Jamison's daily help and care. Jimmy most enjoyed sitting outside birdwatching and chatting with his wife of 49 years, Lorraine (Ranie), who was the love of his life. He will be greatly missed by his family. Surviving is his spouse, Lorraine (Palanti) Guerino, whom he met on July 19, 1969, and married July 19, 1975. Jimmy is survived by a daughter, Gianna Guerino (John Eaton), 4 sons, Jason Guerino, Justin Guerino (wife Mandy), Jordan Guerino, John-Michael Guerino (wife Kayla), his beloved grandson, Jamison Guerino. He is also survived by a sister, Patti Hoffman and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Palanti, Jr. Jimmy was also loved by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.
