Janet M. Baumann

Janet M. Baumann, 91, of Girard, passed away on Sunday July 14, 2024, at her residence. Janet was born May 1, 1933 in Warren, Ohio the only child of Earl L. and Helen V. (Clemmens) Baumann. Survivors include only distant cousins. 

Janet graduated from Girard High School in 1951 as Valedictorian. She attended Baldwin-Wallace College from 1951-1953, where she was a member of Kappa Phi Club. She graduated from Youngstown State University in 1961, cum laude, with a Bachelors in Science, Business Administration, and majored in accounting. She later went on to get an Associates Degree in Computer Technology from Kent State University in 1982.

Janet worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube in the Pensions and Insurance department for 17 years until they closed in 1980. She later went on to work at Ira Thomas Associates as a assistant comptroller for 17 years, and retired in September of 2013 from SCOPE, in Warren, as an accounting and financial manager, after working there for 14 years. 

Janet was very involved in her community, as well as surrounding communities, where she served and dedicated her time to various clubs and organizations. Janet was a member of Girard First United Methodist Church for over 65 years. She sang in the Senior Choir for 60 plus years, and was a Junior choir director, a Sunday school teacher, member of Lydia Circle, treasurer, and was on the Finance, Auditing, and Music Committees. She was a member of the Eastern Star Sunrise Chapter #458, where she was Secretary for over 40 years. She was Past President of District Eastern Star and Dual Member of Opal Chapter #181 Eastern Star, in Cortland. In 1970 Janet was Mother Advisor at Girard Assembly #176 of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. She acted as Grand Deputy of District #5 and Grand Assembly Music Chairman. She served on the Advisory Board of Emerald Assembly #44 and Advisory Board Treasurer in Cortland. She was a member and treasurer and on the Board of Trustees for the Tibbetts-Wick Masonic Association, a past President and member of the Girard Free Library Board, former member and past President of Girard/Liberty Kiwanis Club and past District Coordinator at AARP Tax Aide Program in Trumbull County from 1999-2009. 

A Memorial Service will be held at Blackstone Funeral Home on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 1:00 PM with an Eastern Star service to follow. Janet will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery.
