John Pelles Obituary

John D. Pelles, 84, of Mercer passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022, in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage. Mr. Pelles was born April 15, 1938, in Burghill, Ohio, a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Traven) Pelles. A proud veteran, John served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a laborer at General American Transportation Corp. (GATX), Masury, Ohio, and later at Carmike Cinema, Hermitage. On December 20, 1976, he married the former Roxie Baker, who passed away February 27, 2017. John was a people person and loved to tell stories. He enjoyed working on and driving cars, reminiscing about downtown Sharon back in the day, eating chili dogs, and drinking coffee. Most important to him was spending time with his family, friends and his rescue cat, Suzie. He is survived by two sons, Harry Pelles and his wife Kim Curry, Shenango Valley; and John E. (Shelly) Pelles, Poland, Ohio; son-in-law, James Donnelly, New Castle; two grandchildren, Sara Hurl and Jonathan Pelles; two great grandchildren, Ava and Elijah Hurl; three step grandchildren, Carley, Ian and Alaina Francis; and his neighbors and friends, Robert Collins and Toni Davy. In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by two daughters, Lisa Pelles and Karen Donnelly; a brother, Joseph Pelles; and a sister, Virginia Travers. Memorial contributions can be made in John's name to an animal charity of the donor's choice. In keeping with John's wishes, there will be no calling hours or service.
