John S. Pumphrey Sr.

John S. "Jack" Pumphrey, Sr., 99, of Hermitage, passed away January 12, 2025, in Quality Life Services, Mercer.
Mr. Pumphrey was born December 9, 1925, in Greenville, to the late Charles Pumphrey and Frances (Mowery) Frank. He attended Sharon High School and was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving during WWII.
On April 11, 1947, John married the late Mildred M. (McAdams) Pumphrey, in the United Presbyterian Church, Sharon. She preceded him in death on, August 30, 2014.
John was a devoted family man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. John was a member of Laborer's Union Local 964, New Castle, and the Shenango Valley Masonic Lodge #810 for over 60 years. He was also a 32nd degree member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rites, New Castle.
John is survived by his four children, John "Jack" S. Pumphrey, Jr. (Janet), Canfield, OH, Sherry L. Deiger (Bill), Pulaski, Dennis A. Pumphrey, Bridgewater Corners, VT, and Joseph M. Pumphrey, Hermitage. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by three children, Charlene Pumphrey, Dawnell Pumphrey Rauber, and James A. Pumphrey; and a sister, Gaynell Sharp.
The family of John S. Pumphrey, Sr., wishes to thank Quality Life Services and Three Rivers Hospice for their help during his final days.
Calling Hour will be 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday (01-20-2025) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

A memorial service will immediately follow at 1 p.m., in the funeral home, with Lay Pastor Stacey Cox, of West Middlesex Presbyterian Church, officiating.
John will be laid to rest with his beloved wife, Mildred, in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
